My oh my system wars has really fallen off a cliff over the years.

Multi - X1/1X/PS4/Switch/Low end gaming PC.

1X and Switch get the most usage atm. PS4 will probably jump up a fair bit when Spiderman comes out (still have to finish God of War too).

@quadknight: If SO2 was to exist, they would be banking on the games pass to make it a success (assuming its exclusive).

Also, I wont believe the leak unless its from Walmart lol.

MS has everything to worry about if Google gets in. They are already struggling right now with just Sony and Nintendo. If google comes in and makes the market a 4way I predict things will get harder for MS.

Because Ouya, Steam machines, and Steam link have already caused such a disruption in the console market, right? Lets not forget the upcoming Atari machine. It doesn't matter how much money Google or Apple spend on creating a proper gaming division, it is apparent that it is quite difficult to break through. The money that would have to be spent to make a dent in this division can be better spent innovating in different aspects of electronics. Best case scenario for Google is they release a cheap streaming machine (because we need more of those too right?)

The trend towards streaming is already happening (EA, MS, Sony, Nvidia). I'd be incredibly surprised if someone tried to enter the market with a conventional console. Its gonna end up being a cheap <$150 machine that streams a combination of mobile and console games (that line is already being blurred with Fortnite and PUBG).

TLDR: None of the three console makers are at risk of being pushed out by conventional means. All they can do is prep for the inevitable future (streaming).

A little bit. I think (cant remember for certain) the only 2018 game I have bought so far is God of War. I've also tried State of Decay 2 and Sea of Thieves via games pass (played each twice). I think from a price perspective, I'm just not as willing to spend $79.99 CDN a game unless I feel its a must play. 2019 already looks more promising with Anthem, Division 2, RE2, Metro, and Rage 2.

The only other game I plan on paying full price for this year is Battlefield V, and even then, its actually 10-20% off through EA Access and some other promo within Battlefield 1.

To be fair, this game has looked painfully average since it was first revealed. I have no clue how MS plans to salvage this game/franchise.

Interesting to see Bethesda putting more games on Games Pass already. I wonder if having ESO/FO4 on games pass has already boost sales in DLC/expansions.

Expect to see less SP exclusive games after the success of this. MP will be the focus of most devs going forward as that is where the big bucks are!

Maybe but I also expect to see many more failed MP games.

Not everyone is going to find success like these guys, people can only play so many MP games at a time.

Exactly what I was thinking. However, it seems that consoles eat up F2P games. H1Z1 wasn't holding up as well on PC. I would argue that going F2P on consoles now provides a bit of an early movers advantage for whoever does it, while the PC F2P market has already been stuffed with weekly new games.

This can be scary if a lot of new studios just go for the F2P MP as their first game. You essentially rely on a small percentage to buy "founders" packs, then hope word of mouth brings the consumer base up enough to take part in microtransactions in order to cover continued development/servers. Should be interesting to see the state of AAA F2P over the next five years.

While I care about cross-play, Xbox/Nintendo cross-play means **** all to me. None of my friends are buying third party games on their Switch. They are buying them on an Xbox/PC/PS4. I'd say that maybe half of my buddies play on PS4 while I primarily play on Xbox. I can't be bothered to buy the same game twice.
