^ I too agree with this assessment. I'd go further and say it doesn't just not feel like Devil May Cry -- but it feels way too similar to other third-person action games out there. Which is really a shame, given that Devil May Cry was always unique, even when it was at its worst.

I think the total abandonment of DMC's anime-inspired roots is primarily to blame. Maybe the move to a UK-based studio had something to do with that. The game totally lost its hybrid Japanese-thrash-metal, over-the-top flavor, and is now just a plain old action/fantasy. Feels like I'm playing Darksiders etc etc. It's not terrible, but it's not Devil May Cry.

Now I'll agree that it's anime influence is virtually absent, and I'll give you that as a valid argument for why you wouldn't like the style of the game. However, when you say it's "too similar" to other third person action games, I have to scratch my head and ask: "like what?" Honestly bro, I feel as if third person action games are falling off the face of the planet, which is a shame because they're my favorite type of game. I see your example, Darksiders, but that seems like one of very few games that share any similarities to DmC, and furthermore, I don't think they feel at all alike. Darksiders may have taken elements from earlier DmCs but I see nothing that relates this one in particular to it, other than it's less Japanesey.

I can totally agree about it's lack of Japanese tendencies but it's got a style of its own. The reason the bolded bothers me so much is precisely because I have been complaining about the lack of 3rd person games being released for a while now. It's after all part of the reason I'm less of a gamer than I was. Not only are their fewer third person games, but there is an overabundance of first person shooters that seem to be way more similar to eachother than any of these 3rd person titles. Words cannot express how bored I am with seeing new first person miltary titles (games which are only fun in multiplayer, and even that is getting old to me :/

Honestly, I think some of you (not necessarily the one who I'm quoting) are really just Japanophiles and/or fanboys to an absurd degree. It's quite annoying when the major gripe with a game is simply its stylistic departure from previous titles in the series. I just find it hard to believe that the game play has much to do with it (other than its difficulty). But I suppose you're entitled to your own **** mean opinions.

Maybe it was a bad idea to make this game, merely because MGS fans tend to have little to no interest in this type of gameplay. I have this feeling that even an A rated hack and slasher would not satisfy you guys. I've beaten MGS 2 and 3 and loved the story, but I can't say I'm the biggest fan of the series..I'm not hardcore.

not surprised ,i mean look at the gameplay ,hack and slash ,giant robot ,high tech ninjas, lame villains it looks like a R rated version of the power ranger daviz88

So is the new "in" thing for video games to dislike non-shooters? Sorry for not hopping on the bandwagon, but hearing about "hack and slash" this and that is a little irritating. I'm still unsure whether "hack and slash" simply denotes all swordplay/melee driven games, or if it's a subtle insult to said game type. I don't know any more.

I mean, I know it's the age of the first person shooter, but it boggles my mind how people can only play first person shooters. For me, third person games are more fun to play, but I don't go around saying "I'm not surprised it sucks...I mean, look at the gameplay, you can't even see your character.." It just sounds silly. Are Giant robots and high tech ninjas uncool? I wasn't aware. Or you must be one of those people who get high on ultra-realism, which bores me, but it's understandable that you like it.

Honestly, I liked the demo. I'm somewhat of a "hack and slash" fanatic, but I don't think it plays like any other hack and slash game. Initially I didn't like it. Hell, I still don't like that there's no dodge, but the challenge makes it pretty entertaining. For me, it was rather difficult to beat the boss character, but when I beat it, I felt accomplished; very much so. It was fast paced and rather smooth.

Flaws? I think they could've explained everything better in the tutorial. I found myself learning how to do things through trial and error. The missing dodge button irked me as well, but the ninja run made that more tolerable. Raiden's jumping was rather clunky/lacked coolness but that's a minor nitpick I guess...

Overall, I have a feeling this will be a challenging but short lived game when it comes out, and for that reason I don't foresee myself buying it right away. If there's one complaint about hack and slash games, I can agree that they tend to be rather short and when they are they're not really worth the price tag. I think these developers should try to incorporate some multiplayer action to keep the attention of the people who grew out of the hack and slash games..

I tried to recover my gamertag on my friend's hardrive, but it couldn't be completed. So, without even playing with my account on his hardrive, I found out that I had to recover mine back for my own hardrive. Now it says something along the lines of "recovering gamertags is disabled at the moment" but this is not until after I enter my email address and password. So basically I can't even play online at the moment :(.

Any tips?

I don't have a Wii yet, but I'd like to know. Especially the SNES and N64 games.

Since when does a body go completely limp, and become more flexible then a olympic gymnist when a person dies?  It takes away from the game if you ask me, because it just looks so odd to be a body just go "flopping" around like that.  I'd prefer animations myself, or something.SymphonicWaves

NO NO NO NO! Ragdoll physics make games funny, thus adding to the entertainment. Come on man, how can you NOT find humor in ragdoll physics.
