@BassMan: bunch of haters. The slip space engine is fantastic, and glorious. It's sad there's too many newbs out there that don't know how to work with it, and only know UE. Bunch of scrubs.

Slipspace was a bust. The developers know it and you know it. Time for you to move on just like the developers did.

@saint-george: honestly, I prefer they didn't use these standardized engines for game development so much, especially first party games. Correction, not ALL first party games. I think some games like avowed it makes sese, but other games like halo infinite, they need to keep something more flexible and geared towards xbox hardware. The slipspace engine is great and something that should be improved upon for the next halo.

Anyways, the most important thing is the actual game, not the engine. Heres hoping it turns out well!

I thought it looked terribly dated. It would be nice if it pushed the envelope the way Hellblade 2 does because unlike Hellblade, Avowed may be a great game.

Those are unfair expectations as those games have totally different scopes. Hellblade 2 is a very linear and restricted game. So, it is a lot easier to have a high level of detail and fidelity versus an open world game with a lot more environment variety, structures, items, NPCs, etc.. You need massive teams and budgets to have high fidelity in those types of games. That is why games like Red Dead Redemption 2 don't come around often and they are so impressive when they do.

Their parent company is worth 3 trillion dollars... yes I expect them to have massive budgets.

Your expectations are way off from the reality of how the games industry actually operates.

If the game is restricted in its systems and traversal options, it is good to have visual cues to help guide the player. Otherwise players can get frustrated by the limitations and wasting time trying to figure out what to do or where to go.

I don't get it. It's like the first game, which was great just a couple years ago according to GameSpot. What changed?

They came to their senses.

Why is this a big deal? They were already using UE5 and updating to 5.3 is a nothing burger. This is not going to add significant delays to the project. If anything, they should upgrade to 5.4 for the better CPU parallelization, unless they have already been doing that on their own end.

@Antwan3K: Sure, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but that doesn't mean it is a good one. Also, you can value people's opinions differently. Some people are more capable, credible, and trustworthy than others. Again, it is what it is.

Anyway....
