I can't speak for Gears of War, but for as much as people here want to hate Ascension, it is an awesome game. You people shouldn't focus too much on reviews these days. And they do affect game sales, ALOT. It turns you into mindless sheep that speak trash of something you don't even know . I'd love to know how many people who bash on the game, actually played it or understand it's premise as a prequel and as an end cycle to the PS3.
Santa Monica was pretty honest about the game. It's a prequel, it isn't supposed to be a renewed sequel, it is supposed to be totally familiar to the previous games and it's supposed to portray the first big adventure for Kratos before GOW 1 to 3. Of course it wouldn't be as epic because he isn't CHASING GODS OR CLIMBING MOUNT OLYMPUS RIDING A TITAN! But no. People prefer gaming companies who release sequels with the premise that it is a new game, but it's the same thing, just polished.
If God of War IV is the same thing, then there, the haters that gonna hate have the right to bash on the game, because on that sequel, nothing but EPIC GREATNESS and INNOVATION can be expected from the game. But now, it's just trash talking about an awesome game from silly little kids that believe every word they read on the internet without even trying to understand the premise of a game and how it was conceived and envisioned by their developers.

@josh7845 @Assemblent I respect your opinion because I really do know what you mean. I speak mostly as a fan, not as a casual God of War gamer. But not pushing boundaries or not being as epic as its predecessors was perfectly expectable as it isn't considered the fourth installment for the franchise and that was expected from a game that's a direct prequel to the trilogy.
It's just that some fans might be put off by the reviews, this one for example, because it's a bit unfair while trying make this game go head to head with the previous 3. I mean, you aren't hunting gods or climbing mount olympus, I know... As for the story and lore, it's as beautiful as was before but without the epic sense of scale from the previous ones, but still, it's brilliantly as put as it was.
One thing I'm for sure, if you're a fan (and I don't even mean a fanboy) of the previous games, you'll absolutely love this one because it has it all, even though not being innovative, but here, that isn't necessarily a bad thing when it comes to enjoy this game to its fullness and as you did the other God of War games.
