As a person who has played a few of the FF games, and all of which i have played have blown me away. The storys, the characters etc..

As much as i hate to admit it, i was dissapointed with FF 13.

Headset Reviews - http://gamebattles.com/forums/t/Headset-Guide-Round-Up-Review-3085578

This helped me choose my current headset.

That's an awesome site for reviews! Thankyou Seems quick picky on the Trittons though! And in general on a lot of headsets.

He seems picky about the tritton's because he's experienced with many other headphones. Honestly, most audiophiles who have tried and tested dozens upon dozens of different headphones have the same opinion about most of the gaming headsets in general. To someone who has never really listened to a quality pair of headphones, the axpro's will sound good, probably even great, but when you compare it to other good stereo headphones they just don't sound as good.

I'm not trying to put down the tritton's or gaming headsets, but you just get better quality for the money when you buy a good pair of stereo headphones.

Ah, but i couldn't find any decent steros + amps for around my budget of £120. IThe sennheisers are much more expensive in the UK for some annoying reason! AD 700's were £86 alone -,-...+ i'd need to buy a microphone for them =(. I'd have liked to have a decent headset for music too, but just can't seem to find anything in the UK for the price range. Thankyou for your replies =)

[QUOTE="jshaas"]Considering the "surround sound" headsets don't have a center channel, they can't actually be true surround sound. Therefore, it's a simulated surround sound made by using multiple drivers within each ear cup.jshaas

The Trittons have 4 speakers in each ear....sub, center, front and back.

This is true. But with the speakers that close to your ears, and a center channel that's not in front of you (where it is supposed to be)... these headsets aren't true surround sound. They simulate it very well... I won't deny that, but they're not true surround sound. And as I, and many others in this thread, have stated... a good quality stereo headset will give you better "surround sound" sound than one of these gaming headsets. $150 - $200 for a gaming headset with "surround sound" compared to an $80 headset from Sennhieser will lose on sound quality everytime. I use a pair of wireless Sennhiesers (stereo) that are hooked up to my HT system, and they give me great directional audio and sound amazing while doing it.

Unfortunately i can't find and decent sennheisers for under £70 (since i'd need to buy the DSS to power surround). So for around the price of the Trittons, doesn't look like there's much competition!

Definitely heard the Trittons have pin point accuracy when it comes to surround :).

Considering the "surround sound" headsets don't have a center channel, they can't actually be true surround sound. Therefore, it's a simulated surround sound made by using multiple drivers within each ear cup. I would much rather have a good quality stereo headset over any "surround sound" headset on the market. The stereo headsets can give you directional sound for games such as COD and the like while also providing richer sound by only using two drivers (one in each ear cup). If you have a surround sound HT system, you can run your headset through that and get the same effect that a mixamp will give you. Also, the new Sony headset that's coming this fall is going to be $99. You can find more info about it on the PS blog.jshaas
Dunno, from reviews from some audiophiles - Tritton AXPro's have pin point accuracy when it comes to detecting directions. Saw on on youtube where someone tested it blindfolded and AXPro's performed better than the Astro's.

Thank's for the info on the surround sound though! I was wondering about this but could't find anything...nothing that showed how to get 5.1 simulated from an av anyway

Was debating on surround a 5.1 setup but not sure if for the moment i'll get a cheapo 5.1 and decent headphones and upgrade stuff later.

Yeah, but I've also read other comparisons where people say the astros sound better. The one unifying opinion though is that a good pair of stereo headphones will almost always sound better than gaming headsets.

_SOULtoSQUEEZE_

In most cases that is true but that does not mean that game headsets are never going to get better or that there will never be a decent game headset.

there are decent gaming headsets but for the price they are you can get much better sound quality with a good stereo headphone for much cheaper.

Could you give some examples please :)?

I've not been able to find a decent set of stero's for under £60 (so I could buy the DSS to make it surround on top)

The tritton ax pro's are listed at 180$ on bestbuy.com. If you spend $50 more, you can buy the astro mixamp and the audio technica ad700 headphones from amazon, and you will get much, much better sound quality. The audio technica's will also blow any of the gaming headsets out of the water for listening to music.

_SOULtoSQUEEZE_

Those are supposed to sound great but from what almost every review has said, they are pretty weak in the bass department. To me that kills the deal....I like decent bass when bombs are dropping around me. :)

Weak bass = not an option. But hey that's just me...

yeah i have their bigger brother, the ad900. the bass goes very low, it just doesn't "thump" like i guess some people like, but actually too much bass can drown out alot of the more subtle ambient sounds in games. i dont think sacrificing a booming bass for much, much better sound quality and a much bigger soundstageis a bad idea. the ax pro's bass might be boomier, but the bass isn't as tight and controlled as it should be. the ad700s are by far the better headphones, but yeah if you're looking for a hard hitting bass then you'll want to look elsewhere.

honestly, every gaming headset on the market is very overpriced. the astro headset retails for $200, but my 70$ sennheiser's sound quite a bit better than them.

Which sennheisers?

Hey, thanks for all the replies they have been really useful :).

I've decided i'm definitely not going with the DPX 21's. At first i considered getting them and if (or better 'when' judging by the reviews) they broke, hoping TB had a newer/better headset out by then the DSS could be used for. Also from reviews, the DSS is very good so i was tempted just for the DSS. But the headphones just seem so **** built there is no point.

Also everytime i googled 'DPX21 vs Tritton AX Pro' DPX21 seemed to be more in favour. I think this may be because of a fan following TB seem to have,

Juding from whatjustintime1976(youtube) has said and shown with comparisons from atro & tritton, they're currently my number 1 at the moment.

I've read from quite a few sources though the AX720 are better than the Tritton Pro's?

Also, would it be possible for example to plug in Tritton Pro's or AX720's into my laptop/any desktop computer with a 3.5mm? I go to Computer labs quite a lot since it's my degree so it would be quite nice to take them to drown out any noise.

The only thing holding me back at the moment is seeing if i can find a headset + amplifier that doesn't look so helmet like ;)...So that it's easier for me to take to labs/library. However if i can't i'll definitely be going with the trittons! Most pickyness seems to be coming from the use of all these wires which i'm not fussed about!

I've looked around a little. I think I might just get a Tritton AX720, it's a step down from the AXPRO but from what I've heard the difference is negligible and not worth the extra $50. I know I'm definitely gonna avoid Turtle Beach like the plague after my experience with their headsets and from what I've heard from others.anime_gamer007
About them breaking or something else? Thanks for the replies everyone =)

NOPE 'cuz The PSN will probably get haxored agains, I'm converting to Xbox 360 becausethe xbox live networkhas never been haxored, and honestly Xbox seems to have better console exclusivegames. :D

Poor preformance Sony, poor preformance INDEED. :(

poseidenpug

Sorry but as a programmer Microsoft's security of all their programs is horrendous. So i gather the 360 is no different. The only difference is they were not targeted by any major groups.
