Thank you all for the reply.

For now, I still on 50-50 with the 990 pro and 650. I still can't decide which one, after researching on headfi.

If the 990 comfort is the same like 770 pro comfort, then yes, I can wear it for long time. Too bad last time I went to the store, there are no 990 test unit. Next time I will try to test it.

For AKG, too bass light for me. I still need bass for my music, even though I listened to more relaxed music now. The 650 is on the border for my bass need already.

1 thing is soundstage, will I be happy to sacrifice soundstage over music SQ detail if I'm going with the 650. Or I will sacrifice music SQ if I go to beyer.

I don't want to buy both, waste of money and space.

I just came back from Hongkong for headphone testing to replace my M50.

My purpose is for music and gaming (50-50). Games I played are csgo, l4d2, tf2 and sc2. Music varies between pop, rock, jazz.

After long journey on headfi, I narrowed my selection with beyer 990 pro 250 ohm (220 usd) and senn HD 650 (360 usd).

some recommend 650 because it will satisfy my music need and good long term investment. Other said 990 beyer will be better for gaming need and ok for my music.

Beyer is known for wide soundstage and imaging for my gaming need. Many headfi thread praising for its wide soundstage and imaging for competitive gaming. While the 650 is not known for gaming. I cant find a single thread on headfi mentioning the soundstage details and its gaming use.

Any seniors here please help me on choosing between these 2. No hurry here, there are still another 1-2 months before I buy it.

Source will be asus g73jw and Fiio E17. I know the fiio will not properly power the 650, but its just temporary untill I have spare cash to replace it.

I currently live in Hongkong now. The choices of cans are plenty here, but not with the amp. Its very expensive and not much option here.

NVIDIATI

I know its over your budget, but the performance will carry on if you purchase HD650s in the future.

Audio-gd ships from Guangdong Province in China.

Audio-gd NFB-16 USB Amp/DAC (battery version) ($193 USD including domestic / HK freight):

Head-fi thread:

Keep in mind the Audio-gd is not as portable as the Fiio E17, but can still operate off battery power.

You should also know that a lot of popular headphone amps and DACs are made in China.

If portability is not as much a concern and you want to stay closer to your $100 budget, there is the Zero DAC ($128 USD ships from Hong Kong):

Head-fi thread:

Thank you for the help. This will greatly help me. I will consider these 2 brand and start reseraching.

Last question for everyone, how is the HD650 for gaming use? Mainly I game CS go, L4D, tf2 and sc2. Of course I will use it mainly for musing listening at home.

Actually, m50 is 38 ohm. I can feel that the m50 doesn't get enough power from my Asus. Compared to my IE8, m50 sounds weak and not detailed. With ie8, i only use 18% vol, while with m50, I must use atleast 24-30 to be comparable.

How about the FIIO e17?

Note that the amp/dac will be used for my future cans. I will eventually buy a Beyer 770/880 or Senn HD650 to replace my M50.

APiranhaAteMyVa

You will definitely need an amp for 770/880 and 650 (300ohm)

One benefit of an external amp is that you can adjust the amp in the analog space, so the bitdepth isn't reduced (CDs are 16bits) When you use windows to adjust the volume you reduce the bitdepth. The less volume you have the more dynamic range you lose (CD has a total of 96db, you lose 6db per 1 bit). If you have a 24bit capable sound card, then you should set it to 24bit 44.000khz in windows sound properties so that it will allow you to reduce the volume without losing a lot of dynamic range.

If you mean 30% volume out of 100% then the sound card is still plenty powerful enough, but if you are planning on the 650 or like the 250ohm/600ohm 880 then it will be worth buying an amp. The Fiio amp is decent, so that will benefit the more hungry headphones.

I got an Asus G73jw with realtek soundcard. Its not that good, but acceptable. I don't want to spend too much on my AMP/dac, prefering around 100usd like the fiio E17. I just entered the audio world, damn my friend gives me the headfi website.

Yes, its 24-30 out of 100, which is comfortable listening volume for me with the M50. However, it can't compare with my IE8, which is loud and clear with only 18% vol. I listen to mostly mp3 file with atleast 192kbps and flac 320kbps.I will also game with it; cs go, l4d, tf2 and sc2.

I will most likely buy the HD650 later to replace my M50. With 300ohm imp, can my Fiio e17 powers it?

I know it will not perfect, but atleast I can get better sound than the m50? I currently live in Hongkong now. The choices of cans are plenty here, but not with the amp. Its very expensive and not much option here.

Currently I have AT M50 and Sennheiser ie8. I'm considering to buy a Fiio E7, will my cans really benefit the e7?

I need to make sure before throwing 100usd to something I only occasionally use.

Cans: M50 and IE8

source: Asus g73jw and Samsung 7plus.

12 amps DC or AC? If it's AC, I wouldn't worry about it; the 360 hardly consumes 4 continuous amperes off the wall.

MaoTheChimp

According to wikipedia: "The console uses an external power supply with a 10A / 100–120VAC or 5 A 220-230 V input and DC output of 203/175/150W (depending on revision)."

Mine is the 220-230v one.

So, is it ok for me to use my old extender, or must I buy new extender with bigger Amps rate.

Thanks.

thanks for replying. But is it safe for me to use the extender with only 10Amps? it has 2500W capacity.

I don't know how to see if it is AC or DC, it didn't say on the brick.

Hi guys,

I know this is the wrong forum, but so far I dont have any luck on the 360 forum, GB forums, Gt forums, or my local forums.

I have a questions and this can be applied to PC hardware I think.

I just bought a 360 recently.

One question: I'm using an extender to plug my 360, it said 10 Amp on the back. Meanwhile the 360 powerbrick list 12.1Amp.

Is it safe to use this extender? or must I buy a new extender with bigger Amp?

Thanks for replying.
