It was first reported back in August that the Renesas Electronics plant in the Yamagata Prefecture has been struggling and will be shutting down within the next couple of years. This plant produces the NintendoWii U's embedded DRAM chip, which is absolutely essential to the console. These financial woes are due in part to the Wii U's poor sales, as more than half of the plant's workload came from that chip alone. In an odd turn of events, reports came out this morning from Japan's Toyo Keizai and Nikkei Reuters, stating thatSony may be in talks with Renesas regarding the plant
Sony purchasing this manufacturing plant could potentially save the jobs of the factory's 900 employees. Sony's interest in this company apparently stems from the plant's production of the CMOS sensors that Sony uses in their smartphones. Of course, with Sony's PlayStation 4 being one of the Wii U's biggest competitors, it only makes sense that fans would suspect an ulterior motive.
Fatality.
Well, the life bar isn't own yet so I guess it's not a kill yet. But in theory, Sony buying this company, can literally control Wii U development and manufacturing, and cause Nintendo to forcefully change their console design.
clearly you don't understand how businesses run... Nintendo would simply pay sony a royalty or buy the chips from sony.. Microsoft currently gives sony a small amount of money for using the Blu-Ray drives in the X1. Sony gives samsung or whomever is making their ddr5 memory money for those chips as well..
All you system wars kids are drama queens.
Sony DOES NOT own the Blu-Ray tech.
They are part founders, share holders and have people on the board of directors.
