Okay, problem solved. I had mini casted on my party member and did not know it. You cannot cast Toad on someone while they have mini.

I found this out by trying to cast mini on Refia instead of toad. So when I did, that actually removed mini and I was then able to apply toad.

I had set this game down for a few years, so had no idea they had mini on them.

In any case, thought I'd let everyont know and also leave this here for google to find some day if someone gets into the same trouble.

EDIT: This is so funny. No wondr I thought this game sucked. I've been playing so long in mini, all the characters were tiny and their attacks and spells were greatly diniminished. :lol:

Its been awhile since I have played the game. Ummm trying to move closer to the wall (...if that is the correct place Im thinking of) before casting the spell. Or try to cast the spell individually on everyone, saving your caster for last.

And the only other thing would be to turn off the system and work your way back, in case its a bug it might fix it. All I can think of.

Yeah, I've tried going back in there probably > 15 times so far. I'll try casting it closer to the wall, but you can;t really advance into the room without the cutscene kicking in.

Argh... how could it be a bug?

Try changing another one of your characters into a white mage and have them do it.

By the way...I thought black mages cast toad????

usually it is, but in this one it is white. Someone else theorized that they put all the story-advancing spells under the white mage (since everyone needs a white mage). I tried making Refia a white mage and having her cast it and same result.

There are 4 FAQs on GF, none of them mention anything special, though one says "poor Refia".

I tried making hera white mage and having her cast it -- that did not work. No way to remov her from the party (from what I can tell).

Oh man, I hope it's not a glitch, I really want to play every FF, but not have to lose the hours I've sunk so far.

I'm sorry to clutter the board with a question as specific as this, but my personal network and the entire internet has failed me, so I'm coming to you folks as you have been so helpful in the past.

I'm about 11 hours into FF3 on the DS. I have toad, I have a white mage. I am in Owen's Tower. I get to the part where it is explained to me that in order to continue I must cast Toad on the party. In that same cutscene Refia says she doesn't like being a toad.

End cutscene. I go into magic, select the white mage, select Toad, select Apply to All Party. Exit menu, back to play view, there is a puff of green smoke (white mage uses MP) but no-one changes into a toad. If I move forward the cutscene repeats.

I have applied no cheats, no other spells (like mini) and have not been using a gameshark (these things have been listed deep in the internet as possible causes for this exact situation).

What am I missing?

Like its predecessors, Yakuza 3 is flawed but very fun and one of the last vestiges of the beat em' up genre. I'd just like to see some higher production values, better animation, and maybe a physics system like Havock or even Euphoria implemented. Still, it's a blast.

That would be a great collector's item. I love Jeff, (even if he does like Mortal Kombat just a wee bit too much) shame that I can't say the same for GiantBomb itself. I'm not a fan of their quick looks. They say they are not reviews, but they have the same effect on the viewers, and if they get something wrong with such a quick play through that can be unfair to a publisher/ developer.
