Pure genius, the greatest RPG on the Saturn and is one of the greatest if not the greatest games of all time.

This is one of the most complete games I have ever played on, in fact it has one of the most thrilling, enthralling stories of any game on any system. This is the Saturn's masterpiece and does SEGA proud.

To make this clear I am taking the view point of a gamesplayer in 1998 when the game was released to fully convey how stunning it was to me.

This was the first game i had ever played on that made me care about the characters, it was about the small scenes as much as the big epic scenes of Edge's struggle against the empire and the towers.

When released this was the best looking game on any system around, it blew everyone who saw it away, the problem was that not many people saw it or played it. That is why it has become sought after by collectors and also why it builds up ridiculous prices on Ebay and in shops.

The sound design and music are atmospheric, epic and emotional as well with one of the best scores of all time backing up the then superb visuals.

The game play itself is split up into three different styles, the first is on foot as Edge, the second is the adventure field as the dragon and the third is the battles that you encounter.

The first and second are similar in the way that you explore and interact with the scenery but the combat is where this game comes alive.
The combat is in real time but you are limited to how many attacks you can do by magic points and a series of 3 recharging gauges. This along with the ability to move round your opponent(s) gives the battles a strategic edge and sense of fun that no other RPG that I have played on can match.

The lifespan of the game is about 20 to 25 hours but you will find yourself playing through it again and again to see every little secret locked away in its expansive detailed world.
