The game that made me love video games

User Rating: 8.5 | Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber N64
It's been some time since I've played Ogre Battle 64, but in the days when the N64 was the best system out there (or was battling to be called the best), OB64 was amazing. The graphics were nice - they gave a painting-like atmosphere, almost as if it were a storybook that had come to life. The sound was so-so, and the story was entertaining but admittedly melodramatic to a fault. The gameplay, though - that's where Ogre Battle shines. I loved the squad formation battles, the upgrading of armor and weapons, the collection of items, the search for more warriors to join your party... everything was just right. An obsessive player could (and did) lose hundreds of hours in this game going over and over and over everything to get it just right before the final battle. From the first day I played Ogre Battle 64, I adopted "Magnus Gallant" (or some other form of Magnus) as my gamer name. This game is a wonderful game, and I'm glad it was made. If you've got an old N64 lying around and you haven't play this game, go on eBay and buy it. You'll enjoy every minute.
