Abe's Exoddus still stands out as a classic since it's release, worth your time and money

User Rating: 9 | Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus PS

Oddworld Inhabitants has been around since 1997 with its first game Abe's Oddysee which was a huge success for systems the PlayStation and PC, a year after got a sequel which was Abe's Exoddus which was even bigger and more challenging than the first game, however considered a spin off title in the Oddworld series, and is not part of the main Oddworld Quintology. The main story follows the events after Abe's Oddysee where Abe has shut down Rupture Farms and saved his buddies from turning into lunch; in a vision three Mudokon spirits inform Abe that Glukkons have been stealing their ancestor’s bones for a new product. So it's up to Abe to once again go on another adventure to save his friends which are trapped in slave labour.

For a two-dimensional platform game there is a lot to be said about Abe's Exoddus it does fix most of the problems that were in Abe's Oddysee, you can now speak to a whole group of Mudokons at once instead of speaking to one at a time and getting them across to a safe place you can now escort a while group to safety if you are careful. You can now quick-save at any time which can turn into a checkpoint to where you last saved whenever if comes to being randomly killed or easily made a mistake you can respawn back to the same place you last checkpoint which saves you a lot of time and effort going through the whole level all over again like Abe's Oddysee where you would have to solve the puzzle without messing it up.

Speaking of Mudokons they now have their own emotions from sad, laughing or angry but if you want them to follow you need to ether slap them or apologising to them and they will you follow you, certain levers or switches would require more than 1 person to do this task so you need those Mudokons to help you in order to get to the next part of the stage. When it comes to blind Mudokons it's more about trust when it comes to guiding them and telling to either follow you or wait until either getting pass the dangerous moments or machines.

If you've played the first game a lot of things make a return with a few changes here and there but most of its challenges and puzzles will keep you making you want to play more and more of this game. Abe's Exoddus gives you the challenge to rescuing all 300 Mudokons which is a big challenge for hard-core gamers and you would really have to memorise everything in each of the areas you go through.

Ever since it was first released back in 1998 it still stands out for what it is for a 2D style platformer this has some of the best art design and level design when it comes video games especially what stood out well when it first got released on the PlayStation and comparing this to other games that were released during that time. The CGI animated cutscenes are also the best moments you'll see in this game making it feel like you’re watching a movie. The music make a great impact through the whole game even hearing all of the characters speak from Mudokons to enemies like the Sligs or Glukkons you can tell that Abe's Exoddus is almost perfect for a platformer game.

You can still find the original copy of the game at certain game stores if you’re lucky or from an online website, you can buy Abe's Exoddus on PC/Steam or if you have a PS3, PSP or PS Vita you can download it from the PSN Store but overall this is worth every penny and the time if you want a classic retro game from the PlayStation library.
