Fresh off of being part of one of the center stage games for the holiday release of the Xbox 360, publisher Ubisoft today announced that the supersoldiers of Ghost Recon are returning to the original Xbox with Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2 Summit Strike. The game is being developed by Red Storm Entertainment, and it will deploy this August.

Summit Strike sees the Kazakh president gunned down by a Pakistani warlord. With the help of the United Nations, the Ghosts are sent in to track him down and avoid an international incident.

The follow-up to Ghost Recon 2 will feature 11 new single-player missions, each with a more open-ended approach and multiple solutions. The multiplayer portion has been extended with 24 multiplayer maps (with some popular battlefields from GR2 included), new character skins, and new multiplayer modes, including the chopper-destroying heli hunt and tank-busting armor strike. Ghosts now have 15 new pieces of firepower to battle with, including the SOF combat assault rifle.

Ghost Recon 2 Summit Strike is awaiting rating information and will sell for $29.99. For more information on the franchise, read GameSpot's full review of Ghost Recon 2.
