Imagine if Ken Burns made a videogame

User Rating: 7 | Never Alone PS4

Never Alone feels like a hybrid between a game and documentary film, not least because the game includes actual film footage of native peoples relating personal anecdotes. The game itself feels like a way of capturing and transmitting a cultural legacy. As such, the platforming is secondary to the story, which is what really pulls you along. My wife and I play this together, so I never felt the frustrations caused by wonky AI. It's a beautiful game that will most likely appeal to an older crowd looking for a change of pace from the usual adolescent offerings. I can totally understand why this title would not appeal to all gamers, but it's extremely encouraging to see this kind of diversity in today's marketplace.
