Need for Speed the Run is a solid racing game, but the unnecessary mob chases bring the experience down a notch.

User Rating: 8.5 | Need for Speed: The Run PS3
Presentation- Black box developed Need for Speed the Run in 2011 and Undercover in 2008. Undercover was still a decent racer, but the frame rate issues and easy difficulty brought the experience down. This time, however, Black Box has fixed those major issues. The story mode begins when you race as Jack, and his objective is to travel different states and avoid the cop and mob chases. He runs across this girl that he likes, and takes her out on a date. Other than that, the story is very basic. Your selection of cars is somewhat limited at first. There are several times when you have to press certain buttons to have Jack escape from the cops. This is the least exciting and becomes more frustrating because there are times when it tells me to press the X button, but I still get caught by the cops.

Graphics - The graphics look pretty amazing. They look very similar to Need for Speed Hot Pursuit's graphics. Overall, they are very detailed, crisp, clear, and look very realistic. Black Box did a nice job recreating the actual environments like Las Vegas, Nevada even though they don't look exactly like the real thing.

Sound - The music is somewhat disappointing to me because most of the tunes aren't familiar to me. There isn't music hip-hop and rap music like there was in the previous Need for Speed Series. I guess that the rock and roll music does fit the theme of the states, and that's all it matters. The effects sound pretty accurate to the cars engines.

Gameplay - The controls are still tight and responsive. The drifting mechanics are a little different, but you'll get used to it eventually. You can press the square button or use the brake button to perform drift.

Lasting Appeal - You can have online mode up to eight players in order to extend the competition. Career mode will take some time to complete. Overall, Need for Speed the Run is a solid racing game, but the unnecessary mob chases bring the experience down a notch.

the good: proficient graphics, online multiplayer makes this game more worth playing, career mode is pretty lengthy, simple responsive controls

the bad: mob chases are unnecessary with button mashing, music could of been more varied
