Everything We Wanted And More!!!

User Rating: 9.8 | NBA Street V3 PS2
Seriously I cannot think of one major flaw in this wonderful sequel that redifines the arcade sports genre. I guess I will begin with the face lift. I loved the "Be A Legend" theme of Vol. 2 and after NBA Ballers I was afraid that they would screw that theme up. Luckily they did something completely opposite. They created a theme that was original, old-skool, and hip all at once. All NBA Sreet fans rejoice! Everything you wanted is here. From the new control scheme to the awesome new facelift. The music (while not for everyone) will appease many. It is a tad small in size but anyone who loves old-skool rap like me will once again enjoy the sweet mix of new-skool and old-skool. I also wanted a higher difficulty than NBA Street Vol. 2 and even hardcore vetreans like me will find V3 a fresh breathe of air in this department. I was also blown away by the revamped carrer mode. The "Be A Legend" mode has been replace in favor of Street Challenge. This isn't the same Street Challenge from Vol. 2. It is completely new! Now you can join real NBA teams from the get-go and start ballin' with the big boys much sooner than expected. Don't think that means you will be a legend soon. Long after all this takes place you will have to ball with the best of the best. Of course I am talking about the special characters (or bosses). They are back and much more varied. While I didn't see some of my favorites return I did see some very impressive new feats. I was though dissapointed in DImes new look and thought that they could have put more creativity into the special characters looks. The slam dunk contest is also a wonderful new mode that will challenge everyone from newbies to vets. I am still in awe how much more difficult this game is. It fits the bill perfectly. The new "Trick Stick" (where you pull of moves depending on what turbos you are pressing and where you point the right thumb stick) is also a nice unexpected feature. I am dissapointed though in the fact though that they didn't use the square and triangle buttons to there advantage.Overall I still can't believe this is the same franchise we played 2 years. The game that put EA Sports Big on the map just got a whole lot better. And then some.
