Naughty Bear is an underrated game that should have been put on the PSN rather than released as a retail game.

User Rating: 7 | Naughty Bear PS3
Naughty Bear was a game I was excited about after it was announced, but after reading the reviews I decided to put off trying it for quite some time. I was actually pleasantly surprised by this game. While I don't think it has the content nor the length of a game that would be released on retail, this game probably would have received much more praise had it been released as a game on the PSN.

GAMEPLAY - Naughty Bear doesn't really have much variety in what you do, but what there is can be pretty fun. After awhile killing other bears can get a tad bit repetitive, but doing the same mission with different objectives helps change things up a bit. You pretty much have two ways to approach a level; either by fighting your way through everyone or being stealthy. The latter is a little underdeveloped, as I would have liked it more if the bears didn't take you seriously until you started doing "naughty" stuff. Speaking of being naughty, that's pretty much the incentive of this game. It works like an arcade game, where the more naughty stuff you do, the more points you get. Doing this along with optional objectives leads to more costumes and other unlockables. Overall this game actually accomplishes what it sets out to do, but for whatever reason gets bad reviews from critics. I actually had a lot of fun with this, despite it being somewhat repetitive. - 7.5/10

STORY - The story beings with Naughty Bear being offended for not being invited to a birthday party despite getting the birthday bear a gift. He then decides to slaughter all the bears for no real explainable reason except that he might be a little mentally unstable. The story goes on from there, and eventually Naughty Bear becomes a villain amongst the rest of the bears he lives with on the island. It's nothing special, but again, I think this game was expected to be more than it was. - 7/10

GRAPHICS - The graphics here are fine, but nothing mind-blowing. Again, this game had a simple premise, and I never really felt like this needed to be top quality either. - 7.5/10

SOUND - The sound effects and music are fine, but the voice acting of the narrator kind of bothered me. He had the right voice for what they were going for, but not quite the right tone. Imagine the narrator from something like Winnie the Pooh, but with a more maniacal edge. This voice actor did well except when it came to the maniacal part. It almost felt unnatural and out of the ordinary for him. But otherwise everything here was fine. - 7/10

LENGTH/REPLAY VALUE - This isn't a tremendously long game. There are only 6 or 7 levels with a few different ways to approach each. Unlocking stuff and getting trophies seems to be the only reason you would want to play this more than once. Overall this is worth a rental, but I wouldn't recommend buying it. - 6.5/10

BOTTOM LINE - Naughty Bear is mostly a misunderstood game by critics and gamers alike. This game is of the quality of most games you would get off the PSN; not a ton of replay value, not a very long game, and gameplay that is a little on the repetitive side. Does this mean that this game is bad? Absolutely not. I would argue that this game accomplishes what it sets out to do, and that is to have a game where you're an evil teddy bear killing other teddy bears with evil glee. This is what it is, take it or leave it. If you're like me and are intrigued by the premise of this game, then I say give it a shot. I would definitely recommend renting it as opposed to buying it though, as this game shouldn't take a tremendously long time to finish. - 7/10
