Demon Blade is A Cut Above The Rest

User Rating: 10 | Oboro Muramasa WII
The hype surrounding this game for the last year has built up quite the expectation for gamers who have been following it since its announcement. With few disappointments, the release of Muramasa came as a great suprise.

Control: The controls of Muramasa are set for the most novice player and the only real challenge with it is to know what each blade you equip does so that you can move in the best way. Momohime and Kisuke share control patterns so you learn one for both. I give it a 10 just for taking the focus off the learning of advance controls.

Graphics: Singled out as the most anticipated aspect of the Demon Blade the graphics are some of the most unique and beautiful of most games that have come out recently. Though back grounds become repetitive, the action of battle, character movement and certain tweeks made on them for certain provinces you explore keep this fresh and awe-inspiring. I give this a 12 and you'll know why in a second.

Gameplay: The gameplay of Muramasa is highly repetitive, offering very little to go back to once you finish the storyline and bonus levels. It offers special items to collect, 100 blades to forge and a total of 6 endings that most be found by equiping certain blades for the final showdown. Two difficulties make for harder game play so there is the aspect of having to master the simple controls. This game had high potential for co-op game play yet it does not appear. I give this an 8 because if you wait long enough after your first play, you can come back and enjoy like minute one.

Story: The story of the Demon Blade is amazing to follow. To those who read the each conversation, talk to NPCs and explore enough will find that the simplistic gameplay clouds the deep and intertwining stories of Momohime and Kisuke and their quest to forge the ultimate Muramasa blade. I give this a 10 for a well thought out story and the accurate connection to Japanese mythology.

Overall I give the game a 10. With simple game play, its easy to pick up. What it lacks in gameplay the graphics and story make up for it all. It could use a price cut but to me it was well worth the price of $50 (US).
