The last game of series on ps2

User Rating: 9 | Mortal Kombat: Armageddon PS2
"Mortal Kombat Armageddon" is a classic fighting game 3D, the successor of the issue "Deception." Mechanics is based on titles such as "Virtua Fighter", the forerunner of the genre, but with a totally private, as has been the hallmark of franchise from Midway. In general Armageddon overcomes many aspects of the predecessor, but there are also features that have gotten worse.

The story is pretty simple (in fact, is already so messy that the producer or put the biography of the characters, as some had died). With the growing number of powerful fighters who appeared on the earthly world and the infernal Outworld, and this could lead to the apocalypse, the elder gods created a pyramid and brought a guardian of the elements, Blaze, to try to end the largest number of "kombatentes" possible. The presentation shows that climate chaos, with all fighters are feuding to reach such a pyramid. Already have a lot of action before pressing the START button.

The plot is a mere detail - in fact the ideal excuse to resume the series in the next generation, with fewer characters - because the fans really want to know the number of fights and violent blows characteristic. There is good news and some not so, but in general, what prevails is the tradition. The basic system is still the same, with two buttons for punches and two kicks, which, combined with the directional lets you do various combos and special moves.

There are still moves to seize, defend, and to break up a combo. The novelty here is a button to "parry", which is to "trim" the blow of the opponent, causing him to show his back and being helpless for a few seconds, long enough for an attack and sore. It is a movement efficient, but risk, because you must press the button for the defense at the last minute (and coloOutra good news is the addition of air battles: all characters have gained a good selection of combos in the air. They increase the range and strategies and gives more momentum to the fighting, though the animation style to be that way robotic series.
cating the directional back).

Even though more than 60 fighters to choose from, the problem is that there is little distinction between them. All controls are somewhat similar, with the exception of a few fighters, due to its special. Do not even bother to change the fighting style, which has now been reduced to one to another with empty hands and weapons - some "monsters" are not even that.

"Armageddon" has even more depth than their predecessors, thanks to the addition of the "parry" and air combos, but the lack of unique moves and sequences preprogrammed mean that not even close to a "Soul Calibur III" for example, where the possibilities of attack and counterattack seem inexhaustible. Still, it is possible to have high-level fights in the game. An online mode expands the possibilities and can fight with players around the world.
The interaction with the scenery is great, as always, and provide good times. You can throw enemies into the subway line in giant fans or direct a bell in the new scenario of Armageddon. In addition to ensuring more damage, new parts of the scenarios can be revealed. At the time of "stage fatality, there are several options for using scenario and ends with the opponent. In one, the loser got stuck in stalagmites, bleeding and dismembered.

The system of "fatalities" was changed, but should not be unanimous. Now, they are not specific commands for each character that creates unique endings, but a series of opening moves, transient and closing, like a combo. Thus, the player has the freedom to "ride" as you like his "fatality", but in return, the system is much more complex, although it is possible to start with a movement so encerramento.O "Kombat" is quite simple, being subdivided into "Arcade," a struggle against eight opponents and Blaze, "Versus," to two local players, and "Practice", to train against an enemy standing. The game also has other types of content, but richer options might better exploit the product, as the producer Namco does very well, putting tons of modalities. The end of each fighter is also simple, showing only a text and the fighter doing choreographed movements typical of schools of martial arts - so-called "kata" in Japanese.

The way "Konquest" is the biggest development of the game. Now he became a game of action and adventure along the lines of "Shaolin Monks" and is much more entertaining than the eponymous modality included in "Deception." It brings its own story, focusing on Taven, an original character. He and Daegon, sons of the god Argus, were awakened from its deep sleep to find the sacred weapons and prepare to meet Blaze. The winner will be the protector of Eden, the kingdom of Argus.

On the way, basically linear and there are many chests and other treasures, some well hidden, giving money and extras, like new clothes, accessories for the characters, music and other media. An excellent idea was to simplify the "monetary system" of the game, because now instead of six currencies, there is only one. As always, they are good for buying scams and other resources.

On the way, there are several battles such as "Shaolin Monks", against several opponents at once, with the right number of special powers such as to cause a tidal wave or stop time. It spends an auxiliary power, but as you kill enemies, items of recovery are appearing. You can do beheadings and other atrocities in each of the enemies, especially if you are with a gun.

From time to time also emerging fighting mano-a-mano, as in the traditional way. The only problem is that you can not apply the "fatalities" these enemies will know why. They say the two paths will cross yet, but it reaches the end of the game - which takes about six hours - and many do not give the guys again.

But if the "Konquest" was better, the same can not be said of the minigame. The puzzle and chess title earlier gave way to "Motor Kombat," a game of kart. This is a simple racing game with ten characters - stylized style "minicraques" - each with its particular attack. There are items like coins, speed and replacement attacks. The difference is that the characters had crashed into walls and fall off cliffs, but the simple mechanics does not hold attention for long, either alone or with several players - there's even an online option, up to eight people, but there are some problems with communication delay.
The game now features more than 60 fighters, but the player may, for the first time, build your own character. The basic movements are based on a pre-defined styles like karate, kick boxing, jiu-jitsu, "val everything (sic)," jeet kune do and a series of struggles in China, though the creators do not quite understand the differences of each martial art. The player also sets a style weapons. Finally, there is also to appoint up to four special moves - one of each type - a provocation and a pitch. We can even create a story for the character, the text of which appears at the end of the Arcade mode.

The exterior customization is broader and provides a lot of people creating characters for other games and other media, as happened with Soul Calibur III "on sites that have sprung up to teach fighters like He-Man and his Madruga, venerable character of the show" keys. But once again, the classic Namco wins in the item array when creating wrestlers.

The look of "Mortal Kombat: Armageddon" is basic to the predecessors and the evolution is not very large. Has more effects that help to polish the graphics. At least, the flow of fabric is very soft, about 60 frames per second. The issues for the Xbox and PlayStation 2 are virtually identical. The animations are those typical of the series, a bit harsh. The profusion of blood and dismemberment is a sore point for some, but are so exaggerated that come to be comical (the blood seems more a mass of red). But who does not feel comfortable can reduce the level of violence.

The soundtrack is great as always, those compositions alternating dark and full of atmosphere with hard rock. The voices are typical, as the voice of the narrator, a hallmark of the franchise
