A short but nonetheless fairly entertaining game in the vein of Splinter Cell.

This is a fairly hard game to review considering I played it in 2008 and it was released in 2003. Maybe having low expectations helped me appreciate Operation Surma a bit more than I normally would have. The player takes control of Ethan Hunt as he tracks down a deadly toxin and attempts to destroy it before it can be used and inflict some serious casualties. The game's look is obviously dated when played in 2008 but it's not horrible, there's a small amount of gadgets to use and it's interesting to try to figure out the best approach to each segment. The biggest thing is that there's nothing broken, everything works as it should. Operation Surma is very much like a scaled down Splinter Cell where stealth is a must and extreme force is optional. Despite the solid initial impression, there are quite a few glaring negatives with this title. The story is extremely short and linear and it feels like a small part of a much bigger plot for some reason. There are very few weapons and gadgets available to you and in-game interactions are very basic. All these things add up to make Operation Surma feel like more of a demo than a full fledged title. Overall, it's a decent game but very brief and not all that original.
