Not as bad as I thought

User Rating: 7 | Metroid: Other M WII

Good

- the game feels like a 2D metroid. Fast fluid combat and movement, but has 3D movement. Despite using dpad to move samus in 3D, it felt good.

- the auto aim is done well. Rarely did I feel like I lost control of my shots.

- the transition into FPS view has interesting moments. And it can feel good during some combat sections.

- the graphics are overall great. The cutscenes were top notch quality.

- the dodge parry mechanic is fun to use.

- jumping on top of enemies and finishing them off is satisfying

Bad

- Samus' voice was terribly done. If it's on purpose, I felt like it was too monotone

- it didn't feel right that samus was potrayed as weaker among the federation group. Afterall, she survived the ordeal on Zebes at this point, beat ridley, kraid, mother brain, and a bunch of metroids. She should be regarded as extremely skilled and competent. Her being called princess and being control what weapons to use doesn't reflect her competency.

- weapons being restricted made sense, because it may harm survivors or the integrity of the ship. But why is her suit upgrades also restricted? It made no sense.

- they tried to make the death of Adam and Madeline a very emotional section. But i didn't feel much connection with them. There just wasn't enough meaningful cutscenes and interactions between Adam and Samus to make me care. All their interactions were very cold and straight to the point.

- the game sometimes forced you to stay in FPS view to look for points of interest to progress. It forced you to stare at that part of the screen for a good 2 seconds before it is highlighted. This was often hard to spot as that point of interest wasn't obvious at all.

- despite chozos being a big part of Samus' life growing up, none of it was brought up at all.
