Why Not the best game ever?!

User Rating: 10 | Metal Gear Solid (Premium Package) PS
I love this game so much I just wanted to type a review for this. I first played this like six years ago and I still enjoy it to this day. Metal Gear Solid will continue to stand the test of time in my opinion.

Okay, Metal Gear Solid came out on the Playstation. This game had great graphics then and while they are outdated now they are still great nonetheless and were great for there time. The graphics never, and still do not, bother me and I can still play this game now and even in the future. Remember, graphics do not make a game. So what if you cannot see detailed faces? So what if you cannot see every little detail in the background? The graphics get the job done. You can tell who is a guard, you can tell what object is what. So if the older graphics are keeping you from playing this game then you are going to miss out on a classic.

Gameplay. The heart of a game. Gameplay is what really makes a great game. Metal Gear Solid is a great game, therefore it has great gameplay. What's not to like about this? You can take a stealth approach, avoiding guards left and right, making sure not to get on alert. You can also run around shooting anything. It usually takes a couple of shots to bring them down. Stealth approach is recommended. Shooting method is usually the most fun for some. There are a variety of weapons to accomplish your mission, such as the SOCOM(pistol) or the FAMAS(Machine gun), and most of them you acquire to advance farther in the game. There is also a plethora of items from the cardboard box to medication(all of which are mentioned in the instruction booklet. Lets not forget the Codec. The Codec is another nice feature. Need help? Then press the select button and call The Colonel. Need to save? Call Mei Ling to save. There's a lot of nice little codec conversations and the drawings are cool too. The game itself is short and once you get the hang of the game you can beat it quickly. Still, there is a lot of fun in the amount of time you do play. One thing for sure is you will not be bored and you will not be confused or frustrated. Need practice at your stealth? This game offers VR missions to try out so you can hone your skills. The gameplay is just great. 2 discs of fun and enjoyment!!!

I should of put this at the top/beginning. Oh well, lets just talk about the story. The year is 2005. You play as Solid Snake, an ex-member of FOXHOUND who retired after two missions. The first was in the game, Metal Gear, where you invaded and destroyed the super fortress, Outer Heaven, along with stopping the final weapon, Metal Gear, defeated your friend, Gray Fox, and also defeated your leader and the leader of Outer Heaven, Big Boss. This is just in the first game out on the MSX. Then there was Metal Gear 2:Solid Snake which was kind of like Metal Gear 1 except you go to Zanzibar Land. You still defeat a Metal Gear along with Gray Fox and finally killing Big Boss. Of course, I never got a chance to play these but I read some summaries. Now enough of the recap, and lets get on to this game. After doing all the stuff previously mentioned, Solid Snake retired into Alaska which I already mentioned. This is cut short when he is told to stop a group of terrorists from launching a nuke. So Good Old Solid Snake is sent down to Shadow Moses to stop these bad guys. There are six in total and the group is the new FOXHOUND(Next Generation Special Forces). They go by the names of Revolver Ocelot, Vulcan Raven, Sniper Wolf, Psycho Mantis, Decoy Octopus, and Liquid Snake. That's right, Liquid Snake. He has the same codename as Solid Snake and is in charge of this group of misfits. Solid Snake has two primary mission objectives: First one is to infiltrate the nuclear disposal site and determine if the terrorists have the capability to launch a nuke. If so, then stop them at all costs. The second is to rescue the two hostages, DARPA Chief Donald Anderson and ArmsTech President Kenneth Baker.
These two simple objectives are made more complicated in a story filled with twists and mystery. The story is not hard to understand as long as you know some basics about nuclear arms and the Cold War. If you know this then you should be fine. The stories in the Metal Gear Solid series are always top notch and this game is no exception. Overall, an awesome story that makes the game feel like a movie. You will not be disappointed with the story.

The voice acting in this game has yet to be rivaled. The other Metal Gear Solid games had great voice acting but this game still has the best. Dave Hayter provides the voice for Solid Snake but he is not the only one doing voices. There is a whole cast of great voice actors. Some others include Paul Otis as Colonel Campbell and George Byrd as the Ninja. Everyone does a great job doing the voices for there characters and nothing sounds bad or does not fit. Besides voices, other sounds are well done as well in this game. When I first played Metal Gear Solid, that bullet shot sound from the title menu took me by surprise. All the sound effects are awesome and realistic. Then there is the music. All the different kinds of music, from Alert to just regular background music is good. Even the theme song is awesome. I just enjoy the sound and it is another one of the best parts of the Metal Gear Solid Series.

My review may be a long winded fanboy rant but I do put some logic into it. Metal Gear came out in 1987 but I never had a chance to play it. Metal Gear Solid got me into the series and I have been a fan ever since. These games provide top notch enjoyment and whether you love it or hate it, Metal Gear Solid is a game that deserves to be appreciated. Director Hideo Kojima has created a great series that many, like myself, enjoy and will continue to enjoy from years to come. Metal Gear Solid is the first of the three games and is still, in my opinion, the best. This game was remade on the Gamecube and it is called The Twin Snakes. It gives people the chance to play the first game although it still cannot beat the original. What am I trying to say in this review? Simple answer, Metal Gear Solid is one of the best games out there. It started all this stealth and sneaking gameplay that is being used more in games like Splinter Cell and Hitman. Metal Gear Solid is one game that shows how great video games can be what with an amazing story and all instead of mindless shoot-em up violence. Hideo has done a great job with his series and it all started back on the PlayStation 1 with Metal Gear Solid. Am I saying this game is perfect? No. There is no such thing as a perfect game. A perfect game would be one that anyone and
everyone can enjoy. Some people do not like this game. It is there opinion, afterall. My opinion, this is the best game ever.
