Great compilation, but Gamecube controller makes it sloppier than playing with originals
While the buttons are mapped correctly this time around, it may be even worse to control than Anniversary Collection. This is because the air dash move uses the A and X button pressed together, which is quite a feat when combined with holding down B to charge up the Mega-Buster. It gets even wonkier when you're trying to execute a dash while firing by hitting B and X. The only solution that retains the maneuverablity needed is to map the fire button to Y. It's almost the same as playing on a SNES controller, but titled at a wierd angle. This is a definite case for someone to pick up the PS2 version instead, since the PS2 pad is the same as a PSX pad.
As for the game itself, it's nice to finally be able to play the import version of Megaman X3. The sound effects are superior and the animated intros for each boss stage are pretty cool. I'd say the remixed tracks are hit and miss. I thought MMX3 had the best music in the series so I'm a little peeved by some of the songs that they kind of took the edge away from (Zero's music, I'm looking at you).
I haven't unlocked Battle & Chase yet, so I can't comment on that game. In fact, I haven't unlocked any artwork thanks to the increased difficulty of the control scheme. I'm not a baby, I'll get over it, but you either have weird tentacle like fingers or you're a delusional Nintendo fanboy if you enjoy this button layout vs. the PS2 version.
All things considered, this is a must-have game. I spent countless hours playing the original versions of these games, and they still haven't got old. I highly recomment mapping the fire button to Y. You'll notice the difference instantly!
