Megaman X Collection is a great way to get your nostalgic megaman fix.

In short, Megaman X Collection is the 3 Megaman X games on the Super Nintendo, and the 3 PS1 games all tossed onto one little Gamecube Disc.

So in total you have 7 games here. From the SNES, you have Megaman X, X2, and X3. Then from the PS1 you get Megaman X4, X5, and X6. Once you've completed X, X2, and X3 you will then unlock Megaman Battle and Chase. Which is a neat little kart racer, megaman style. It was never released in North America, so its a pretty cool little add-on that if you're a megaman fan, you should enjoy.

The basic story of each megaman game is that there is a war going on between the Mavericks, and the Maverick Hunters. As Megaman it is your job to fight against each of the Mavericks and make your way to the boss, Sigma. The story is pretty simple in the SNES versions, but does get fleshed out a little more in the PS1 versions with more cutscenes and coversations between characters.
In each game there are a set of Mavericks that you must fight in any order you wish, usually they are some robotic animal type creature. Once you beat it you'll gain a special weapon ability from them. So when you beat the fire themed boss, you'll gain a fire themed attack. Each boss also has a weakness to a certain attack. So it can be quite rewarding when you figure that out and gain that attack, then go in and whoop that boss easily. You can also collect power-ups hidden through the levels that will boost your maximum health, or upgrade your armor, or x-buster.

The game controls pretty well on the Gamecube controller, all you use are the basic face buttons and its pretty easy to master in no time at all. The game sounds just as well as you would expect a SNES game to sound, which isnt a knock at it at all. The game sounds nice and futuristic, and you may even get sucked into the game and completely forget about the music. Considering these games were made in the mid 90's, the graphics are pretty good and hold up well. Each level is detailed and full of enemies, lights, background elements, etc. Each Megaman X game looks very nice for being ported to the Gamecube. The Megaman X games did quite well when they were first released back on the SNES, and PS1 and that still holds up. They contain all the charm they did back then, and if you were a fan then, you'll still love them today.

Overall the collection is very fun. Its nice to go back and play all these older game that you may have missed, or no longer have that console to play them on. As each level progresses its fun to gain new abilities and uncover all these hidden items in each level. It should also be noted that there is now a save system placed in. So instead of having to right down a screen full password, you can choose to save your progress to your memory card, and continue from that at any time. I would personally recommend Megaman X Collection for anyone who is a fan of Megaman games, or is looking for a few games that are challenging and fun and dont mind going back a few years to do so.
