Good games in a shaky release
As a Mega Man fan, it was inevitable not to feel excited about this collection but I got upset when I just saw the very screen of the game.
Given the visuals and contents Capcom put on Mega Man Anniversary Collection, this one went pretty rushed!
Average extras and an ugly "select your game" screen (worsened by some weak BGMs from X4 and X6) will make you wonder what happened...
Recapping the games, from Mega Man X to X3 you go for classic action with upgrade items collection, bosses to be defeated with each other weapons, some slightly challenging stages and nostalgic music.
However, Capcom chose X3 from Playstation over the SNES one, which features cheesy anime sequences of the bosses and a rearranged soundtrack, culminating in an embarrassing experience. An "omen" for the series, because after it, the anime sequences became frequent from X4 to X6, adding little to nothing to the story or even the visuals.
X4 is the first attempt on pseudo 3D and where you can play fully with Zero, refreshing a bit the game. X5 tried a different approach on the way you fight bosses not by their weaknesses but by parts they carry in order to serve the story's unraveling but still is Mega Man formula that prevails.
X6 is, by far, the most mislead of the series. With a ridiculous difficulty, weird level designs and the annoying Nightmare System, the game is a feat even for its developers.
If you still own the originals from SNES and Playstation, stick with them for what it's worth. Otherwise, if you really want this, get knowing you'll be somewhat disappointed the way Mega Man X Collection wound up.
