MMXC is 16-bit/32-bit Goodness.

Mega Man X Collection is one of those titles you'll either love or hate. Personally, I love it despite its obvious flaws. The disc features six of the games from the SNES and PS1 era Mega Man X series. For those not in the know: Mega Man was an 8-bit series during the glory days of the NES. The series was titled Mega Man 'X' during its 16-bit outtings. Each of the games are obviously formulaic. The big draw, at least for Old School heads like myself, is the unlocking of various abilities via defeating the 'Bosses' at the end of each level. The stages are all extensions of their respective 'Boss', a robot with a unique weapon or ability. By fighting your way through the stage and defeating the Boss you unlock that ability for your own use. The weapons that can be unlocked are finite, however. You must aquire canisters that allow you to replinish the ammo you've expended during battle. This isn't too difficult: these canisters are laying around the stages you must explore. Also, killing some of the enemies results in them leaving these canisters behind. The Mega Man series has always used this approach, as it is tried and it's fun. The older MM titles were noticably more challenging. The later 'X' titles in the compilation aren't as good either. But for $20 it's not a bad deal. Another plus is the inclusion of 'ZERO' a melee based character whom appeared in the series and is playable in the later X titles. Zero's sword attacks mean close range fighting and adds some challenge and a slight change in tactics (aside from the fact that Zero looks cool). All in all, it's a solid title at a reasonable price.
