The first one was better.

MechAssault 2 adds many new features that make the game worse. Like the previous MechAssault, you get into a giant BattleMech and blow anything in your way with a vast arsenal of weapons. MechAssault 2 allows the player to be outside of the Mech as an infantry with virtually no defense. There's no point in being an infantry unless you want to switch Mechs. In multiplayer, you spawn as an infantry which is terrible because you are a sitting duck waiting to be spawn killed. MechAssault 2 also adds the ability to be in other vehicles such as the VTOL, the tank and the BattleArmor. They are nothing more than support vehicles that get destroyed really easily. The Mechs are still the vehicles of choice and in MechAssault 2, you get to pilot 28 different BattleMechs. The problem in Multiplayer is that you cannot choose what Mech you start the match in. You actually have to find a Mech that's on the map. This system takes a ot of the fun away from Multiplayer. The graphics, sound and game play are still good but it's getting old. Single player is still as bad as the first. Overall, the game is pretty cheap right now so it might not be a bad investment.
