Plagued by bad Camera Angles, sluggish control, cheap hits, lousy pay to save feature and much much more.

Maximo - Ghosts To Glory (PS2) - Review

I REALLY HATE THIS GAME. Ok, understand I buy a platformer game to enjoy a stress free gameplay that is both fun & entertaining however Maximo falls extremely short of the standard due to crappy camera angles & TONS of cheap shots. Every time I get hit is due to the fact I can't see what's around the corner and I'm most of the time just sitting there trying to get the camera fixed in the right direction. I only bought this game because a ton or retards gave it a 7/10 thou this is clearly a mediocre 5/10 for gameplay. It's obvious I can't go by Gamespots reviews anymore, they're either corrupt of gameplayers nowadays don't know s h *t about good games.

I would highly recommend cheat codes in the Infinite Shield & Health area due mainly that the poor cameras make jumping difficult thus resulting in more deaths from falling into water, lava, or swamp muck.

Difficulty: Hard only due to poor control layout and camera angles, not by any other means.

CONS:

1. Lousy Camera Angles: 70% of the time I can't even see the undead enemies because they're behind me and unless is STOP, click the divert camera button, and re-evaluate which is not really an option so then I basically have to go on MEMORIZATION & guess work. Every time I get hit is due to the fact I can't see what's around the corner and I'm most of the time just sitting there trying to get the camera fixed in the right direction. This is the reason Zelda (ocarina of time) had the "lock on" feature because they knew this type of game environment was annoying without it.

2. CHEAP ENEMIES: I won't go through the entire list but the worst are the Dead Pirates (with sword in chest), Yeti, and the worst of all the mimics (evil treasure chests). Mimics are guarenteed to lay a smack down on you. Dead pirates are terrible because unless you get them from behind and knock them down face first then you'll get a hit . Yeti aren't tough but the game designers crowd them together and it's unavoidalbe to dodge two attacks (that take off one whole set of armor in one hit) at the same time, you can't engage one without the other hitting you. Most of the time it's crappy camera angles that allow a enemy to just run up and lay a cheap smack on you. Another cheap hit is where you see the enemy on a area you have to jump to or off on to and the second you land you get a unblockable love touch. The other cheap hit annoyance is getting a hit from an enemy because they're too close, the game has a glitch where the undeads can walk too close to you and go slightly past/through you and therefore it registers as a hit from behind. RETARDED!!!

Another is CHEAP situations, there was one level where EVERY chest, key, spirit source & powerup was surrounded by enemies (hard kind) thus making any effort fruitless and frustratingly difficult for little or no reward. Nothing made me want to throw the controller threw the screen when I battled 5 nasty things in a tight confined area with camera angles working against me so I can't see where they are and all for a chest that just turned out to be a stupid mimic that killed me because they're CHEAP hit bastards.

3. Lack of originality: The concept of an old wizard turning you into an old man or baby is a rip off of GHOULS N GHOSTS (arcade) as well the loss of armor concept (in your underwear). No one told me this was a sequel or take off of the Ghouls N Ghost franchise.

4. LOSE SHIELD is Annoying: I went through 2 previous easy levels just to stock up on lives & get a sheild and I couldn't even find one, Basically you have to just die and you'll restart with your basic shield. The dead pirates are even more annoying because they can destroy even the most powerful sheild with they're twin blad swirl attack. More frustrating is that most of the items you can buy are overpriced and I never have enough money because you waste 100 coins everytime you save.

5. PAY to save and PAY to move around previous chapters. EVERYONE knows the pay for basic game features is totally retarded for obvious reasons, in the later levels you never have enough money to buy anything. The continue option is extra retarded, having to pay the reaper in dead coins to continue (an the price will go up the more you continue) no one would even bother using it since you might as well click on QUIT and restart from your last save where your basically going to start from anyway, F'in STUPID!!

6. Story line sequences short and steam rolled through. They cheaped out on the CGI Movies.

7. Bosses Way too easy. If your fully stocked with Armor & upgrades then you can just annihilate a boss. What makes this game hard is just the regular enemies because they're CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP.

8. Short, really short, this game just flies by and it's more of an annoyance than a pleasure, buy this if you want to waste 4-6 hours of your life but only if it's in the bargain bin.

9. Getting 100% completion is hard and not worth it. You would spend a dozen hours if not more so running around trying to get 100% in each level. Just download a Gamesave and be done with it.

10. Also, the kisses from the sorceresses you need to save to unlock a measley art gallery take up critical areas in your ability "lock bar" that could be used for a ton of other things.

11. Repititive, Every level goes pretty much on the same style. No mini games, or anything original like what the other platforms offer.

12. Sluggish control, A light tap of the button doesn't work, you have to PRESSSSS

PROS:

1. Decent Graphics
2. If this is a Ghouls N Ghost takeoff then it holds true to the original series
3. Old school gameplay, probably why some people just love this one but the camera angles just ruin it.
