While it might not be that deep, it still is wide.

First of all, don't judge this game by your first couple tournaments. They are pathetically easy. You will want to just leave the TV for five minutes and come back when the game is over. You can score with your eyes closed. It is that easy. But if you can get through the easy tournaments alive, you will find an oasis of pure, mario fun. The four sports:Basketball, Volleyball, Hockey, and Dodge Ball all have their flaws, but still provide a good amount of fun. Basketball has the most depth of the four, but is a little slow and rough, gameplay wise. Volleyball is the worst, but can still be fun if you are in the mood. The controls are mostly shaking, which can be both tiring and boring. Hockey would be great, if it weren't for the terrible AI, especially when it comes to goal keeping. Goals are handed out for free, which almost derails Hockey. Dodge Ball is my personal favorite, mostly because it is something new. While one ball dodge ball may sound as boring as knitting, it can actually provide some fast paced, hard hitting fun. All the sports can become about twice as fun when you add another human player into the mix (via Internet or local, they're both fun). Mario Sports Mix also throws a very, interesting story at you, containing a very surprising ending involving a giant final fantasy monster. There are about twenty characters to choose from, and an impressive amount of courts, which help change things up when they start to get slow. Overall, I give it an eight. A skippable title indeed, but still worth checking out if you get the chance.
