EA's second Madden for the Xbox is good, but didn't add as much I would have hoped for.

To be fair I just bought this game last week. You are probably thinking, why would this guy purchase Madden 2003 in the year 2006? Well, I wanted to finish off my Madden collection for the Xbox. Now obviously after playing the newer games in the series and going backwards to play this game, that could screw up any review I might do for the game. So, while reviewing this game I had to have an open mind and not compare this game to the newer versions. Here is what I thought:

When I first started playing this game, I really noticed the difference between this and last year's version just in the sheer terms of presentation. The menus, player cards, licensed music (thank god!!), and overall look of the game has been upgraded. The mini-camp, create-a-playbook and beefier franchise modes are all very impressive. The visuals didn't get the upgrade that I was hoping for other than the menus etc. that I just talked about. The gameplay is pretty much the same and it would stay like this really until 2005. In short, the game just 'feels' more like a current generation Madden game than it's 2002 brother. I know that would sound like an obvious statement, but if you played 2002 then you would know what I am talking about. Like 2002, I got this at Gamestop for $3. So if you are fan of Madden and want to fill out your collection (like me), or you just want to play some old school Madden with out stupid gameplay options like 'cone-vision passing', this is worth a shot. If anything, I felt it was worth the $3 for Marshall Faulk being on the cover and him being rated a 99 in the game (he is my favorite player). Just watch out for that Madden cover-boy curse!!! Anyways, check this game out if you have the chance. You might get a nice feeling of nostalgia.
