It's hard to call Jurassic Park: The Game a game, because it doesn't require skill, thought or even trying to complete.

You probably know by now that Jurassic Park: The Game is basically a huge quick time event that follows a parallel story to the events that take place in the 1993 film. Although the story is very interesting, there is just no substance to make this worth playing.

I'll start off with the good parts first. The story is very good. It accurately follows the story from the movie while adding to it. The sound is also excellent for the most part. Even the cheesy dialogue doesn't feel out of place, because it seems right at home given the script from the film. Unfortunately, that's where the good stops.

A good story doesn't save a "game" from being simply boring. I didn't expect a ton of excitement from a quick-time only game, but I expected more than this. Most of the quick-time events in this game are very, very simple. They require no skill and as long as you're even barely paying attention you shouldn't miss any, because they give you plenty of time in which to interact. Now that may not be a complaint for everybody, but the lack of skill required to play this game simply make it too boring to want to keep playing, despite your interest in the story. Furthermore, the graphics are close to horrible by today's standards. The game looks 5 years old, character animations aren't very good, and facial animations are even worse. Environments are grainy and pretty "un-lush" for a jungle scene. The best part of the graphics are the dinosaurs, but even they leave a lot to be desired. None of this would be a big deal if this were an actual game, but since everything is scripted, it would have been nice to have seen a little more effort put into the visuals...this could have easily been completely CGI and played just as well without raising the system requirements. Granted, that would raise the budget, but it would also make the game easier to get through. Unfortunately about a quarter way through the game I found myself wondering when it was going to be over (not that this is a long game in the first place at about 6 hours max). To top it all off, Jurassic Park: The Game has plenty of bugs, despite the fact that a scripted game should be fairly easy to clear these up. I didn't actually experience any crashes, but frequently brief scenes or dialogue repeats itself, occasionally a quick-time prompt will not show up at all on the screen causing you to fail a prompt you didn't even know was there, and occasional graphics quirks pop up (floating dinosaurs, vibrating shadows, etc.). It makes the production values seem very low in a game where there's never much happening at a time.

Jurassic Park: The Game simply caters to a very small crowd. I enjoy playing just about every type of game, but I discovered an "interactive movie" isn't really my thing. I feel the story would be much more enjoyable in a short novel rather than this boring and under developed "game."
