Jak and daxter is a great hop and bop game for the ps 2.
The graphics are all crisp and clear and even look ok now.The animations are all great and the level of detail that goes into each level is just fantastic.You can tell that the developer has a real love for video games.The sounds and voices are all well done although daxter can and will most likely get on your nerves.The controls are good and tight...well for the most part.Sometimes it seems like the double jump doesn't want to work when your jumping over large chasms.I swear I did it right, in the same spot a few times for that matter and I just dived right to my doom over and over.Another problem I had with the game is the camera,the camera really needs some work.I hear people gripe about the camera in mario 64,well in my opinion the camera here is worse than it.Resulting in some cheap deaths from time to time because it doesn't seem to want to do what you want.While the camera in mario 64 can get crazy at times i'm pretty sure it didn't contribute to as many deaths as I have had in this game. If it were not for these two things you can bet that this game would have scored higher.
You'll hop and bop across a massive world looking for power cells.You must do many things to get these like go to a island in the distance,or make your way to the top of a big temple,fight bosses and trade precursor orbs.The many things to do gives the game a lot of variety.Jak also has loads of moves and power ups at his feet.Power up with various colored eco's to do many things,like restore your health or jump really high.There are also a few riding parts that are ok also.
All in all jak and daxter is a really solid platform game that is just plain fun.It doesn't really break any new ground but hey they put enough stuff to do in this and then polished it up so well, you'll have something to do for sometime.Its also still fun now in 2010.SO if your looking for a fun platformer then look no further than here.
