I did NOT expect this game to be so insanely good!

User Rating: 9 | Hotline Miami PC
Hotline Miami's visual style brings back memories of the original GTA. For all the old-skool visuals, there are many modern mechanics in there too. The game looks a lot more simple than it actually is. By that I mean that it actually depends where you shoot an enemy as to whether they die instantly or not. If you shoot an enemy in the face, he will die immediately, glance his arm or shoulder, and it may be your own downfall.

This is one incredibly addictive game. I purchased it in the xmas Steam flash sale for about £3, but having played it, I would happily pay full price for it.

It's brutal and methodical, and contains elements of random generation, enemies patrol paths and weapons may change just to keep you on your toes, so you cannot use the same pattern or plan of attack every time. I say this, because you WILL die a lot in this game. And your death happens very easily, a single hit will kill you. Although this can be altered depending on which mask you wear. There is a vast selection of masks to choose from, some are unlockable during missions, whilst others will be unlocked by completing missions.

The soundtrack is as brutal as the visuals, pumping 80s style MIDI tunes really suit the tone of the game, and the tone is DARK, bordering on creepy. This is one of those games that is simply hard to explain, and seeing footage of it simply does not capture how much fun it actually is to play.

I could probably say more, but I'm just going to cut my review short now and say: GET IT! If in doubt, get it on a sale at some point, although it is still worth full price.
