I had never played a Harvest Moon game before so I can't say this is best in the series. But I really love this game, because I love games like this. It is really hard to grasp at first, but once you know what your doing it's very easy.The major letdown is that this game is better with a lot of money. If you don't have an Action Replay, it's gonna take you ages to afford even the smallest luxuries. As for the storyline, the whole sprite thing is rather easy. The first 60 to rescue the Goddess are easy, and some do have harder requirements, but most can be done with no real effort. As for getting married... Well I never played long enough to experience any of that stuff. It all sounded a bit stupid to me. One feature I would have loved in this game is customizing. Clothes and decorational furniture would have made the game alot better. The animals are cute, and stuff like caring for your animals is fun, but boring after a while. Unless you have a massive farm, loads of cash and alot of things left to do in the story aspect of the game, everyday life will become a bit repetive. Water crops, care for animals, pick up stuff, talk to people, end. Unless like me, your an idiot who loves to roleplay on their horse outside the big mansion.
