Activision gets back on track finally; NOT a ridiculous influx of peripherals.

I want so bad for the Guitar Hero franchise to reclaim it's former glory. I've always been against Rock Band, though not for any real concrete reason. The newest title in the GH series is more of the same but within the familiarity lies a handful of steps in the right direction. These changes range from the inclusion of song challenges (taken from Rock Band of course) to that of the party play mode. The challenges add a good bit of replay to an already replay-friendly game. Each song includes an instrument specific challenge that is, in fact, quite challenging. Players use to completing songs on expert will still have trouble finishing all of them.
The party play is quite possibly my favorite new feature. Most of my GH5 use occurred during extensive Friday night parties so the ability to have someone drop in/out of play has been extremely convenient. When i first heard about the feature was a little put off; it seemed that the game was being taken in a MORE casual direction. I was instantly relieved to learn that the game is just as much for the hardcore player as it has ever been. The difficulty of the game is maintained, if not increased.
Then there is the ability to import tracks from GH:World Tour, Metallica, Band Hero, and (hopefully) GH:Van Halen. I was ecstatic to learn that this feature would be included.
The graphics are, simply put, phenomenal. I understand that music games are not about visual appeal but it is worth a mention.
Overall, if you're a fan of the genre Guitar Hero 5 is more than worth a play or two.
