A game with a great story and solid foundation. A worthy play in anyone's books.

User Rating: 10 | God of War (Greatest Hits) PS2
Just reading the title, God of War, as well as the rating, the game sets itself up as an awesome, gory and allround well setup game. Even if you're not a fan of greek mythology, or a rpg gamer, God of War appeals to everyone. The linear setup of this game is becoming less fashioned, compared to today's non-linear; choose your own path games, and even so is made with such exquisite detail that you'll feel in the adventure yourself. And at the end of this roller-coaster like game, you'll be wondering if this was history itself.

Difficulty, something that should be looked at in this game, at first it seems easy, even on Mortal Mode (easy) but as you progress you should become more battle hardened, because your adversaries are going to pack a punch. The game itself isn't intended for kids, so be prepared to rage hard at your TV when you owned by the opposing forces, because this game is labelled as Hard. And if you honestly don't think that it will be such a problem, then just try it on God Mode.

Talking about time, I guess you'd have plently of time to play the game, besides the one or two times where you just can't get passed an area, you should progress through the game at a decent pace and finish at minimum 10 hours. As I said before the game is linear, except for one or two levels that require you to backtrack in order to pass a obstacle like a door or bridge that you need to extend, but with generally playing, you tend to cross the threshold of understanding how the game works, and you expect such things. Without much fuss, it's a great game in which you can enjoy every moment of playing.

A very straight forward game, and a very quick learning curve. With a simple Ps2 controller, it's very easy to understand the fighting and special attack controls. As in most games, a small hints bar will point you in the right direction with controlling Kratos. An easily accessed combo menu would add to the simplicity of playing.

Concerning the gameplay it's very immersive and historical. Even though the story itself isn't true history, the game offers such information as the God names and relations. Disregarding the factual information the game provides many hours of gore, levels and puzzles that requires a mind as well as fast fingers to complete. The game also comprises of many cutscenes that inform us on Kratos state of mind, and how we come initially to do what must be done. The bosses are also quite fun to battle as many of them require some sort of surroundings interactions to complete behead them or just simply massacre them in the most bloody or vile way possible. The mini-boss "o" mini-game is also very fun as you can rack up heaps of experience. Overall Gameplay deserves a 10.

Graphics are phenominal for a ps2 game. The facial expressions and depth given to the characters are amazingly high and are proof as to what the Ps2 can still do. Also the animated backgrounds that sometimes are seen while in play contribute to the overall amazing feel that the graphics provide. 10.

The score in God of War is hard to miss, and once heard is not easy to forget. The theme itself is quite easy to remember and you'll find yourself humming it. The sounds of blood and gore, too, contribute to the realism of the game. Theres always a sound for every situation and ever stance that Kratos is in. The voices are mint. They all suit their characters and they tone their voices, so it's not a monotonous game that bores you to death. Flatout 10.

Gold. Pure gold. Worth every drop. For the time spent and the possibilty of repeating the game to unlock more goodies, the game is worth paying for and enjoying.

Overall God of War is a game that is marked as one of Sony's greatest achievements and worthy of every award it received. The players ability to mould into the game and understand the story, comply with the controls and unleash the rage that Kratos has been holding in makes this a Masterpiece that is not to be missed.
