God of War is an amazing action game and should be part of your PS2 library of games.
The gameplay is definitley amazing. When i first saw the game in action, i thought that those combos were hard to pull off, but it's really simple for everyone to play. They didn't make this game confusing for everyone. The story of God of War should keep you going as well. Greek mythology is so interesting that people will take an interest into it. This is what kept me going. Although there were a few glitches, the game itself hides this factor. The controls in the game are very basic. The X button us used for jumping. The square button and triangle buttons are for attacks. The triangle one is used for stronger hits and the ability to hit the person in the air by holding triangle, enabling you to perform more combos. The L1 button is used for blocking. There is also the use of magic in this game where you can use 4 abilites. Poseidon's Rage, Medusa's Gaze, Zeus Fury, and Souls of Hades. All of these abilites at some point in the game will be necessary to use. ANother neat feature is the mini-games. While fighting enemies, an O appears their head, this gives you the oppurtunity to press O and go into a mini-game (this really depends on how big the enemy is) While your pressing the corresponding buttons, Kratos is performing some sick moves in order to kill the enemy which can be a lot of fun.
The graphics also are also good. These people really did their homework and brought the atmosphere of the Greek times and brought it into the game. They really spent a lot of time with the bosses as well. They took their time and made the bosses and enemies detailed which just made the game so amazing. IGN mentioned that God of War's technology, direction and use of audio was on "par" iwth Hollywood films. I think that that is a great accomplishment for a game to do that. There are also extras on the game once you beat it on any difficulty. They show previous chraacter models which they were about to use, and the give reasons to why they didnt include this model in the game. The develeopers have clearly thought about this game a lot, which results in a great game.
The sound is also done perfectly. There was some great voice acting for Kratos and other characters in the game. I really can't think of this game without voice acting, then this game would just not be right. The background music was done well also. It absolutely suited the atmosphere of the Greeken times.
I definitley recommend this game to people because of its gameplay which makes this game a classic. It should definitley be in your collection,
