Gory combat, epic presentation, brilliant puzzles and an enthralling story make God of War a masterpiece.

Story: Kratos, a once great captain and warrior of Sparta, had served the gods for 10 years in order for forgiveness for him crimes. Tricked by Ares, the god of war, Kratos had spilled the blood of his own family and the ashes of his wife and child fastened to his skin, never to be removed. Ares, to get revenge on his father, Zeus and his sister, Athena, attacks Athens and Kratos is tasked with defeating him as a final mission. In order to defeat Ares, Kratos must recover Pandora's Box from Pandora's Temple. Kratos sets out to recover the box and kill Ares both to get forgiveness from the gods and to get revenge on the god of war for murdering his family.

Gameplay: The gameplay is concentrated mostly on combat and what great combat that is. The combat is gory, bloody and violent and just feels so satisfying. The game also has some platforming elements. You'll be climbing ropes, jumping form rooftop to rooftop and cimbing on walls. With every enemy you kill you get red orbs which you can use to upgrade your weapons and magic. Speaking of magic, you can use various magic attacks that are given to you by the gods. You can throw thunderbolts, turn enemies to stone, electrocute enemies and release dead sould to aid you in battle. To venture further in the game you must also complete puzzles which are well-thought of and feel rewarding to complete.

Replay Value: After you've beaten the game you can still complete the Challenge of the Gods which are 8 trials consisting of a mixture of combat and puzzles. You can also try to complete God mode which is specially designed to torture the player with its immense difficulty. By completing the game, the Challenge of the Gods and God mode you can unlock many extras such as videos that give hints on sequels.

Overall God of War is one of the greatest action game ever made and one of the best PS2 titles available. If you like action/adventure game get this game at all costs!
