Here's what we know about the future of PlayStation
Here's what we know about the PlayStation 5: Sony has not given us a release date, but based on the company’s statements, we know it won't come out until April 2020 at the very soonest, and possibly not until 2021. It will be backwards compatible with PS4 games, support 8K gameplay, 3D audio and blazing-fast load times thanks to its solid state drive.
No price has been announced either, though Sony’s Mark Cerny, lead architect of the PS4, has said its price will “be appealing to gamers in light of its advanced feature set.”

Here's what games are coming to the PlayStation 5
The official details about next-gen games are scant, but we’ve been told the Final Fantasy 7 Remake “should be playable” on the PlayStation 5.
Here’s a list of the other games we think could be coming to the PS5.
Cyberpunk 2077
This massive first-person, non-linear, open-world RPG from Projekt RED (The Witcher 3) was a big hit at this year’s E3 thanks, in part, to Keanu Reeves’ star power.
Here’s everything we know about Cyperpunk 2077, due out April 16, 2020.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood
Bethesda’s latest Nazi-killing game, set in a fictional version of 1980s Paris, tasks BJ Blazkowicz’s daughters Jessica and Sophia with finding their father. The game adds new RPG-like elements and abilities to the series, and offers cooperative play with friends (or the computer AI).
It’s due out July 26, 2019. If you’re ready to pick up Wolfenstein Youngblood now, know that there are some nice pre-order bonuses available.
Borderlands 3
Our first look at the gameplay of this loot-centric, first-person RPG shooter from Gearbox impressed with new mechanics, features and strategy. Many of your favorite characters are slated to return.
Here’s everything else we know about Borderlands 3, due September 13, 2019.
Death Stranding
Following his exit from Konami, Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima opened a new studio to develop this PS4-exclusive game, the first in the "action strand" genre. This mysterious action title stars The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus.
The game releases on Nov. 8, 2019.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
This single-player game with plenty of worlds to explore, set a few years after Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, puts you in the role of a young Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis, one of the few to survive the purge of Order 66.
You can check out the gameplay trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order here. This game due for release on Nov. 15, 2019.
Final Fantasy VII Remake
Cloud, Barrett, Tifa, Aerith and the rest return to take on the Shinra corporation in this gorgeous remake of the classic 1997 Square Enix RPG. Expect it to be drastically different from the original, with “good balance between free-flowing action and menu-based mechanics from the past,” per GameSpot’s Peter Brown.
This game is slated to release on March 3, 2020.
The Last of Us Part II
The long-awaited sequel to Naughty Dog’s 2013 survival horror game stars a much-older Ellie (voiced by Ashley Johnson) and features an updated combat system with tougher and more intelligent baddies.
Here’s everything we know about The Last of Us Part II so far. No release date has been announced.
Doom Eternal
It’s time for the Doom Slayer to once again wage war against the forces of hell. The first-person shooter from Bethesda is as bloody and violent as you’re expecting with its “glory kill” executions and demons that physically deteriorate as you deal damage to them.
You can expect this game on Nov. 22, 2019. For more, you can check out the Doom Eternal gameplay trailer from E3 2019 here.
Marvel’s Avengers
First the good news: This game features a ton of playable Avengers, from Captain America to Black Widow to Thor.
Now, the bad news: The internet savaged Thor’s outfit, the character design, and the lack of Hawkeye. (Everyone loves Hawkeye, right?)
You can check out the official reveal trailer for Marvel’s Avengers here. The game’s release date is slated for May 15, 2020.
Watch Dogs: Legion
This third installment in Ubisoft’s hack-happy, open-world series is set in the authoritarian London of the future. There’s lots for fans of the series to like here, though most of the E3 spotlight went to playable character Helen, a badass granny who’s a former assassin.
This game is due for release on March 6, 2020.
The Outer Worlds
Developed by Obsidian Entertainment (Fallout: New Vegas, South Park: The Stick of Truth), this first-person sci-fi RPG has a branching story with many dialogue decisions -- you can even be the game’s villain if you want to.
This game turned out to be one of our favorites of E3 2019. It’s due for release Oct. 25, 2019.
Elden Ring
This upcoming collaboration between Game of Thones author George R. R. Martin and director Hidetaka Miyazaki (Dark Souls III) is a dark fantasy action role-playing game with a massive open world to explore and deep lore to uncover.
This Bandai Namco game has yet to be given a release date.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
This sixteenth installment in the Call of Duty series, developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, is being called a soft reboot (not remake!) of Modern Warfare. Our favorite features so far: cross-platform multiplayer support, and scrapping the Season Pass for free post-release maps, events and updates.
This game is slated for release on Oct. 25, 2019.
Dying Light 2
This follow-up to Parkland’s 2015 survival horror action-adventure game features plenty of parkour (and zombies!).
Previously scheduled for a 2019 launch, it’s since been delayed to spring 2020.
Madden NFL 20
EA’s long-running franchise returns Aug. 2, 2020 with a new “Face of the Franchise” mode that starts you out as a star college quarterback. There’s a new Superstar X-Factor feature as well that gives star players special talents and perks.
FIFA 20
The next installment of EA’s soccer series features a new FIFA Street-style mode called Volta, which, according to EA, “takes football back to the streets with the authentic culture, creativity, and style of the small-sided game.”
FIFA 20 is slated for release on September 27, 2019.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint
This open world title from Ubisoft, a direct sequel to Wildlands, is set in a fictional Pacific archipelago of Auroa. There’s a big emphasis on stealth and survival in this “story-driven, four-player experience.” You can check out our first impressions of Breakpoint here.
The game is scheduled for release on Oct. 4, 2019.
Nioh 2
There’s a lot we don’t know yet about Team Ninja’s hack-and-slash, but we have seen female samurai battling yokai, playable characters transforming into yokai, and tons of new weapons that we can’t wait to pick up and swing ourselves.
We’re still awaiting a release date for Nioh 2, but in the meantime, you can check out our first 19 minutes of Nioh 2 gameplay in the closed alpha here.
Shenmue III
This martial arts action-adventure, developed by Neilo and YS Net, is the long-awaited continuation of the Shenmue saga, a cult favorite series of the Sega Dreamcast era.
You can check out Shenmue III’s trailer here. The game’s release date has been delayed to Nov. 19, 2019.
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey
This "uncompromising, relentless survival experience" (per our own Tamoor Hussain) puts you in control of an ape who must explore the unknown, fight for survival, reproduce and ultimately evolve into something closer to human.
You can check out the latest trailer for Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey here. The game is due Aug. 27, 2019.
Final Fantasy VIII Remastered
If your hunger for classic Final Fantasy is insatiable, then you’ll be glad to know that a remaster of the classic Square Enix RPG starring Squall, Rinoa, Seifer and the other students of Galbadia Garden is coming to the PS4 -- and just about every other modern platform.
Sea of Solitude
There’s more than meets the eye in this lonely puzzle-adventure game set in an abandoned, flooded world. Says our own Alessandro Fillari, “even from the short demo we played, it’s evident that Sea of Solitude tries to tackle the complex and challenging topic of mental health, and the creator describes the game as the most important project the studio (Jo-Mei Games) has ever made.”
The game is slated for release on July 5, 2019.
Code Vein
In this challenging post-apocalyptic vampire RPG from Bandai Namco -- think Dark Souls, but with bloodsucking -- you play an undead Revenant who needs to arm yourself with increasingly powerful weapons and spell-like “Gifts.”
The game is expected for release sometime in 2019.
Psychonauts 2
Though the gameplay trailer for Double Fine’s long-awaited Psychonauts 2 was a big deal during the Xbox E3 2019 briefing, PS4 fans can rest assured they’ll be able to play the game when it’s released sometime later in 2019.
Skull and Bones
This action game from Ubisoft, now delayed to 2020, puts you in charge of your own customizable pirate ship. You can set sail on a single-player campaign, or join up to five friends in a multiplayer battle.
