For me, Halo. I like both series alot, but Halo is definitely my favorite. No other shooter lets me and my friends have so much ridiculously crazy fun, be it in campaign or multiplayer.
Im gonna go with GOW...im a diehard halo fan through and through but the fact that they are milking the crap outta the halo series is why i choose GOW! And every campaign in halo is pretty much the same thing? Where as in GOW at one point you are eaten my a giant worm, flying reavers, dealing with crazy razor hail, and the mutating lambent!! Its always different but i do prefer halo's MP over GOW bc its just way more fun!
I like both series Gears of War and Halo. Tough choice but if I had to choose I would go with Gears of War series. I did buy the Gears of War limited edition red 320GB console. With 2 gears of war themed controllers and the pack in game Gears of War 3. When this bundle launched. Plus I purchased BulletStorm just for the Gears of War 3 Beta.
While I have all of the Halo series of games. I did not purchase the Limited edition Halo consoles. so going by themed console purchases Gears of War is my favorite.
Halo hands down! Gears of War is a boring, repetitious and generic run-and-gun with little to offer outside of a decent story.
Personally, I like Gears of War more than Halo. I've never been a huge Halo fan. I always seems to get bored playing it after a few hours.
I've always liked Gears of War better. I like the over-the-shoulder view better than first-person, not sure why. The story in Gears of War stuck with me a little bit more than Halo as well. There is just something about the vunerability in Gears, we are always so close to being wiped out.
I enjoy GoW for its deliberate approach to combat and the feeling of despair the campaign imparts on the player.
Halo has better online, or at least more accessible
Overall, Gears is the better game.
both good (quality wise).
best?
...
im going with neither. its like asking which ball im gonna get punched in.
I can't say I am big on either series.
Gears is overly repetitive, bland enviroment design, EPIC does a terrible job at hiding the fact that the levels are built around cover at times. Lackluster animation, boring characters. Although the visuals are fantastic in this series, also Horde 2.0 is great.
Halo has bland environemt design as well. Nothing stands out, I see the same reused objects all over the place, nothing feels like it was actually lived in. The levels lack history. The characters have about as much personality as Sev and Rico from the Killzone series, which is none for those of you who have not played them.
Even the Multiplayer maps in Halo seem amateur. Look at most of them... same design on both sides, a few rocks, few objects, a stream, and a few pick ups. For a dev that is widely praised for creating the best console multiplayer shooter... you sure wouldn't know it by looking at their multiplayer maps.
Visuals have been rather lackluster this gen for Bungie, they are not terrible but given their status in the industry you'd expect more. Gameplay has stayed rather unchanged in the series with some notable new weapons and additions, many of which their fans ***** about anyway.
Forge mode is an great addition, no complaints. Some people manage to create some amazing stuff using this. Theatre mode is great, and gameplay is still solid. However the A.I in campaign is pretty laughable, many of the weapons lack impact. Halo Reach was actually the worst in the series as far as my opinion. ODST was far superior in terms of campaign.
Halo 4 looks to be a great addition, I think the series needed a new dev. Bungie was lacking in many areas. This should be interesting to have another (imo, more talented dev) come in and spice it up a bit.
Overall I have to give this to Halo just based off the fact that is atleast has variety, although not much. It also has better animation. Like I said... both series are lacking in my opinion. I still say that Splinter Cell Conviction is the best console exclusive on the 360. Followed closely by Alan Wake.
Hmm... tough call as I love these series both very much. I would have to say GoW because its MP modes blow Halo away.
Horde mode FTW.
Also... teamwork makes playing pvp GoW much more intense and fun. Halo is just a huge ****fest in MP.
