What difficulty setting do you usually start with?

Do you guys go straight to the hardest difficulty, or start lower, like on normal or easy so you get a feel for the game first?

i usualy start on normal, then up to hard, then to hardest (assuming they have a hardest setting) Then play on easy just to Eff some stuff up lol

It depends on the game. Most of the time I select Normal, but if it's a football (soccer) game I increase the difficulty.

I always pick normal too, though I don't often venture into the harder levels unless there is co-op.

I usually just start on the default setting. Sometimes if the achievements stack, I'll just go ahead and play on the hardest difficulty. I did this with Terminator Salvation (easiest 1000 I've gotten).

i always start with a harder than normal difficulty first, but not the hardest, unless theres only 3 game difficulties then I go for hardest, yes!

I usually just start out on normal and go from there. I will probably take a full run through on normal then the next time I play through the game I switch to hard.

Insane, legendary, veteran, hard.. whatever the hardest is because easy and normal are boring.

Normal for most games, but for JRPGs, FPS, and Sports I find it more enjoyable to play in Hard.

The only games that I haven't started on normal first would be sports games like Madden or something.

I always just start with the Normal/Default difficulty and then play on harder difficulties on subsequent playthroughs. For sports games I'll usually up the difficulty though.

Depends on the genre of the game, and my expectations. I usually play it on the hardest mode, unless I feel I'll learn a lot from my first play through and anticipate that I'll want to play a second time, in which case I'll start one difficulty below the hardest.

lol. Honestly, I start with the easiest because I have gamer rage and I don't feel like breaking anything the first time I ever play.

normal. but if i find that normal is too easy, then i will increase the difficulty to hard or legend like smackdown vs. raw 2009. i am playing that game on hard at the moment.

I play on normal then play it again on a hsrder difficulty if I want to play it again.

I can't believe I'm only the second to say this. I start on the easiest difficulty almost always. I don't find challenging to be that fun most of the time. If I enjoy a game, I'll up the difficulty either mid game(if it has that option) or on my next play through.

I'll rarely try the hardest difficulty, only if the game really is more fun to play on it(Call of Duty 2 and Halo CE comes to mind). Oddly, if a game has 4 settings(easy, normal, hard, crazy hard) I'll never touch the 3rd one, I'll always skip from normal to the hardest.

Normal setting for my i must admit on most games that is hard enough....i am getting worse at games the older i get :)

Typically normal - most of the single player acheivements are tied to either beating the level. Some have an additional achievement for beating it on normal so I start there. Then if the game is good, I will run through the most difficult level which is usually unlocked by beating the game and will almost always have its own achievement as well.

I am quite busy outside gaming so there are many games I will just play on easy for the storyline. Depends on the time, quality of the game and length of the single player mode.

Same here, I always start on normal difficulty, and then straight to hard dif.

By the way, I hate you DMC4! You have to finish the game in easy mode in order to access normal mode, then hard and so on.

If I'm unfamiliar with a game, I'll probably start on easy just to get going, then move up to normal. After I've completed the game, I will play through again on a harder setting.

I always try and start on the harder difficulty levels but if I get stuck on a certain part of the game I might knock it down to an easier setting.

If there are 4 settings then I will start one above Normal because I think the games are intended for this difficulty (like Heroic for Halo)and then if i play through again I will bump it up to the hardest
