What do you guys prefer?

Pretty much this. Lack of a great connection, and competitive spirit usually keeps my interest elsewhere. And i never played games online before this generation... The matchmaking in Super Mario 3 was terrible :PI play almost exclusively single player or local multiplayer. Almost never touch online multi.

I'm more of a SP player, but to be honest, either of them are fine. It really depends how they're designed really.
depends, if its a MP that has teamwork and is fun ( why i like arma 2) i play MP alot. But i NEVER EVER leave out SP, its a habit i have never changed to always play the SP before playing online.
for most cases i would prefer a single player. if a game has both i play 75% SP and 25% MP
I prefer single player, MP is just kind of a bonus for me. Unless you're talking about Halo, then I'm totally all in on that MP.
I'm almost exclusively a single player guy, this includes co-op centric games like Gears. I much prefer to experience it by myself, mostly because I like to dictate when I play, how I play it and at what difficulity. Sure co-op is fun for an hour or 2, but then they want to stop. I want to play when I feel like it, and I hate playing with strangers.
That being said, I do like some online, mostly Black Ops and hopefully BO2.
Generally, I prefer a good involved SP experience - Skyrim/Fallout 3/Red Dead Redemption were all really good examples of that. HOWEVER... I'm fortunate in that, in my little brother, I have a partner in crime to play MP Co-op with someone who basically plays in the same way that I do, which is slow, steady, checking out every nook and cranny on the way to achieving something.
There's nothing worse than MP co-op with strangers, and competitive MP is too often filled with people who have too much time on their hands to do nothing but perfect a particular game/mode - I'm never going to be able to compete with them, so to be honest the idea of even attempting to is an instant turn-off.
In conclusion - some games are AWESOME in co-op, if you can find a steady partner to play them with.
Just SP for me. What little time I did spend playing with others when I ran a Gold account was spent playing co-op with a few friends.
Mostly some type of online game, wether it be coop or competetive multiplayer. A single player game has to be very good for me to play it. For example my wife and I play both Survival and MP on MW3 but I would never play that campaign.
Borderlands 1 and 2 are IMO more enjoyable with a friend/family memeber. Portal 2 was an exellent coop game as well and I didnt enjoy the SP near as much as the coop. I played Saints Row 3 with a friend from work, and it was great as well.
Single player games I played and loved this year were Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption and LA Noire.
i only play on xbox or diablo 3... if none of my friends are online playing battlefield or borderlands i'll do single player.. not too big on split screen co op. it really is hard to beat you and group of buddies running through fools on battlefield 3 and using teamwork.
I love single-player and cooperative games. I like to be competitive in some games but it's frusterating when online doesn't function as fluidly as you'd like (fighting games are especially a hassle since it requires much precision). I look forward to the day when laggy connections are no more. Hurry up technology.
I used to perfer them both equally but over the past few years I seem to game less and lees online. I find the single player experience a bit more grattifying. That said, I will always play Halo online as it's just plain too much fun not to.
