Well if anything they could make Miis playable then people could make Reggie or whoever they wanted. But it's not like it's the weirdest Smash request for a character. IGN wanted Master Chief in Brawl even though that wouldn't happen. I've seen fan vids for DBZ and Marvel characters and those wanting characters from some obscure JPRG I've never heard of.

There are a bunch of "4th-party" requests that do not have a chance. At least Kevin Butler is a fictional character, though. It would be akin to Danica Patrick in Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing.

It's amazing how quickly we forgot the requirements set for 3rd party characters in Brawl way back.

1. Has to have had at least ONE game on a Nintendo platform.
2. Has to have originated in a video game.

When Minecraft shows up on the WiiU, then fans can request Steve (the "Minecraft guy").

And I agree that Sega putting Danika Patrick in Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed was really stupid and I can only assume the reason they did it was for the advertising revenue of her Hot Wheels car. At least Wreck-it-Ralph made some sense. Though owners of the PC version of SASRT know that PC exclusive characters have been added are even weirder like the Team Fortress guys, s shogun warior and a commander from Company of Heroes 2. Of course Sega couldn't be bothered to bring any DLC characters to consoles this time around, not even Mario for the WiiU version.

My friend SuperSmashBro1 said that Sakurai has other third-party (as well as first party) character criteria:

1. The character's inclusion must make people want to buy the game.
2. The character must be unique
3. The character must fit into the style of Super Smash Bros.
4. They must contribute to the game balance.

There are too many requests that break the above rules, especially #3.

Today's Nintendo direct confirmed Luigi's return to Smash though I don't think anyone was worried about him being cut since, for the most part now he's not a clone of Mario like he was back on Smash 64. The big question is if they'll incorporate the Poltergust into his moveset this time.kbaily

It is good to see him returning. I also hope his Final Smash or individual moves will use the Poltergust.

Well we know Rush works with Mega Man as an assist probably similar to Sonic's spring from Brawl and given in Smash both Snake and Sonic got one character from their series as an assist trophy (Shadow and Grey Fox) I'm sure we'll see a Mega Man assist trophy as well as if they use collectable trophies again, other Mega Man characters will be there.

That also got me thinking, I wouldn't be surprised if the Miiverse had some sort of trophy/screenshot sharing community now. I can really see that happening. Pikmin 3 already lets you take pictures and share on the Miiverse. SSBB had a photo sharing program but only with your friend's codes. I have a feeling the next Smash is going to have a have Miiverse sharing community which also leads me to believe they will bring back and expand on the stage creator tool.

Looks like his stage is based off Lost World which makes sense given being a Nintendo exclusive and all.

Also because Sonic fans will go into this again. None of Sonic's friends will be playable. At best, a couple of them might show up as an assist.

I am more interested to see if they do more with Sonic's alternate costumes like a Shadow recolor.

I would have been more surprised if he did not return. Hopefully this will be it for the third party characters.GamerofMario1

Well Sakurai said not to expect a ton of 3rd party characters in this as it's reserved for "special exceptions" like Mega Man and Sonic so many are figuring that Snake won't be returning and while some will be upset at Snake's removal, I think to be a 3rd party character in Smash, your contributions to Nintendo should be able to be counted on more than one hand.
