One of the best mech games is the Zone of the Enders series on the PS2. Chromehounds on the 360 was also a great game, and if you're into anime-based games, Zoids: Battle Legends on the GameCube is a must buy. (although stay away from other Zoids games: they suck...) I also suggest staying away from the Dynasty Warriors: Gundam games and S.L.A.I. on the ps2...
Killzone 2 has an awesome Mech level, although the best mech level ever is the Metal Gear fight in MGS4. I know they aren not mech games but they are fun levels :P
