I don't think that making #1 will be all that difficult. We ranked #2 on yesterday's chart, and with all these officers returning, the board should be a little more active in the next few weeks. Especially with ROTKX on everyone's brains.taisho_rolyat
This union's not even on top 10... the charts are random now ya know.

I know Down the Hatch, and that two-punch combo that Fei-Hong uses on Kei-Ying when he gets disOWNED. Aside from that, 'fraid not. I'm pretty sure that Drunken style is actually a facet of Hung Gar Chuan, but there could be more than one, or I could be wrong entirely.Haha, I know down the hatch too, lol, me and my friends used to get each other with that.
And one time, I got my brother with the one where he rolls their head around in his arms, haha, he actually stumbled and fell! He'll never admit it though, but that's what he gets for tryin to wrestle me after watchin a kung fu movie, I get too many ideas, lol.
Right now, I really want to learn Hung Gar Chuan. I'm going to stay with Taekwondo because it's good excersize and I have great instructors, but as a fighting art I'm more interested in Hung Gar. I'm also thinking about starting Iron Palm training, but I've heard that it can deform your skeleton if you aren't old enough, so I'm hesitant.
Of course, the other method of conditioning for Iron Palm is to drink a Chinese herbal medicine that calls for liquor. I wonder which one my parents would prefer for me to try?
Hung Gar, even though Iron Palm definitely sounds cooler. Is it some kinda Kung Fu?TDD__C_GhostIron Palm is a training regime for hardening the hand, building toughness and power. It also teaches you to hit your target with your Qi (Ki in Korean and Japanese) for the maximum energy release. Since I prefer hand techniques over kicks, this is naturally a good choice for me.
Ah, well, only you can decide that one then.
I like all the kicks Tae Kwon Do has to offer, but I gotta admit, I've never really used em much in real fights. I only do basic martial arts, and basically end up using boxing.
It's not that the kicks are innefective, so much as the fact that they require so much more training, and so much better conditions, to be effective. I'm faster and more accurate with my hand blows (I like to use Leopard Fist and Tiger Claw, but I've been working on Snake Fist lately), and I can generate more force. I usually just throw in kicks either as distancing moves, or to thow an opponent off-balance. When the opportunity arises, I can intercept an opponent's punch with a pushing kick to the solar plexus.
Which comes down to the reason why I want to learn Hung Gar- Tae Kwon Do is very mobile and agile, but at the same time is very strict in movement and attack, so as to avoid taking damage, sometimes at the expense of damage-dealing ability. Hung Gar, on the other hand, uses a deep, sturdy horse stance to establish a foundation which is immovable, waiting for the enemy to make the first move. Once an opening presents itself, a strong, final blow is landed to a weak point. Crushing power is emphasized, and it's generally acceptable to open yourself up to damage so long as you know your strike is enough to end the fight.
I think Hung Gar is more conductive to my overall personality, preferences, and technique. The basic method of Hung Gar reminds me of a quote from Sun Tzu:
"Long ago, lords first made themselves invulnerable, then began to search for vulnerabilities among their enemies."
Cool, Hung Gar sounds awesome.
It's used just from a basic Horse stance?
Oh, and you're learning all this stuff at one school?
All that I know about Hung Gar, I learned from an interweb search I did last night. I'm not learning it at my Tae Kwon Do school.Cool, Hung Gar sounds awesome.

*Lu_Bu01's moral is dropping*
Well, the different between this hijacking and one of LuBu01's hijackings is that this has developed into a good discussion on something vaguely DW-related. You might actually learn something from reading our little side conversation, and that's rarely true of LuBu or DW5Freak's hijackings. Besides, this thread was hijacked on the 3rd or 4th post :Ptaisho_rolyat
we hijacked it once so don't hijack it again :P
yeah, learning some sort of martial art would be awsome, but I think in the end my fights would turn out something like this........
Opponent goes into a long complicated display of his martial arts skills in an attempt to intimidate me, and is in all honesty very good. Before he can finish, though, I whip out my magnum and unload five rounds into da fool.
Just in time to admire my awesome sigmanship, and Lord Cal's glorious return! You've come back at an exciting time :PUNSUSPENDED.........AGAIN WOOT!
