Recommend a game thread

This thread is for users to ask each other questions about games they wish to get. You can recommend games you like or answer questions for others. Personally, I recommend trying Football Manager by SI Games and published by Sega if you like Soccer.

Do the games have to specifically be management and/or strategy games?

Anyway, I recommend...

Warcraft 3. It's a very popular RTS that a lot of people still play and the learning curve isn't as steep as Starcraft and the custom games you can play online are a nice change of pace. You can get the entire Warcraft 3 battlechest for a reasonable price these days.

I would prefer it to be that sort but I may be lienient on other games as long as they dont flood this post.

I am tempted with Warcraft 3, especially since the Battle for Helms Deep map you have mentioned from LOTR.

A Sid Meier thread......that or something more specific like Sid Meier's Civilisation.

EDIT.: Also, something for the likes of Dungeon Keeper and OverLord, their Pretty Much a mix of RTS and a typical Action Adventure Game.

Helms Deep is awesome, but it's usually hard for the Orcs at the beginning, but once they overtake the gates, they can easily take the fortress.

I've heard good things for Overlord, I'll try that one if I get the chance.

Its a really long game, so its definitely worth the money.Hell, I had it on X360, sold it, then bought it again when it came out on PS3, which has the extra Raising Hell expansion. My problem is, I dont have Time to finish 30+ hour games.........Lol, wonder what I'm gonna do on The 24Th of October, Far Cry 2, Fable II and Little Big Planet all come out on the same day....then Fallout III one week later......and you Know, I cant bring MySelf not to buy them. When a game I like is in storeshelves and not in My Possession.......I Feel Haunted.

I saw Bioshock mentioned in one of Garfield's articles, and I'll recommend that since I'm not a hardcore RTS fan. Bioshock is a dark, action packed game where your desicion to do what you want with the little sisters affects the outcome of the game. Decision making is a huge part of the game.

Thanks Matt, if you want to make a thread for that then please do so. This union may be expanded into other games, we will focus on RTS/Management but games with decisions as well.

I recommend Homeworld, a 3D space RTS... I really think that this game really set the bar of RTS during it's time.

I Made Threads For Sid Meier, as suggested earlier by MySelf, and Will Wright, whom incorperates both management (The Sims and SimCity.) and RTS (Tribal and Civilisation Phases In Spore.) in his games.

If anyone can find it, I recommend Star Wars: Battlegrounds as a RTS. It came out after Age of Empires 2 but before AoM.

Ah yes, I remember that game. Its very good although I prefer Empire at War as it has space combat. Its a shame though that the game is restriced in terms of having 5 units on the ground at one time and building is done in turns or units cost way too much like the AT-AT.

Battlegrounds had space combat as well but it wasn't well made.

Ah right, with Empire at War it was full battles with X wings and Star Destroyers etc protcecting planet surfaces. If you won the space battle you could then invade the planet and your space units could be used to attack the ground like the Y wing and Tie Bombers. I remember the X Wings and the other units in Battlegrounds but I didnt really do much outside of land units.

I reccomend Luminous Arc on the Nintendo DS....one of those games that snuck in under the radar, but which now has a substantial fanbase and a sequel due shortly. Awesome game.

I recommend Warcraft 3 to beginners to RTS and Wargaming... easy to pick up and play and you get into the mode of using stragety.

Reviving this gem of an old thread. Recommendations please!

I recommend Witcher: Enchanced Edition. If you have ever touched upon an RPG game, you must play this. You can actually skip Witcher 2, but you should not skip this one.

Gave me countless hours of fun.

League of Legends, it's one of the best Multiplayer Online Battle Arena games out there, and it doesn't have a steep learning curve like DOTA.

To make things great, it's totally free.

Every two weeks, a group of free heros are offered which you can use to play for free. By winning games, you earn in-game currency (RP and IP) which you can use to buy heroes, or you can pay cash to get them.

If you want, you can play free forever without spending a single dime.

And I do enjoy the game, but I am no hardcore. I mostly play with friends.

PLaying with friends is probably wise. My friend is an avid player and he says the lol vcommunity is terrible, full of people who just want to get other players banned etc, not very sportsmanlike.

Well ,yes, I've been a part of the DOTA community for a while and I know how nasty the MOBA gamers can get. Actually, the games are designed in such a way that one weak player can make a big difference, so people really get very nasty towards players like that.

I've encountered a different kind of problem lately, whereby very skilled players kicked our asses using low level accounts. I have only reached level 11 and I am expected to get teamed up with same level players, but this guy, despite of having a level 10 account was playing like an absolute pro.

That happens a lot online DMR I've encountered many many players in Streetfighter IV and other fighting games that appear to be new players but then bust out all the killer combos with perfect timing and execution (tricky to do in a laggy environment) and kick my ass.) I'm an above average player at fighting games, close to pro myself, and these guys make me look like a noob. I guess it cpould be a way of playing on an alternate account with different characters to explore them etc, but it's most likely noob farming for points lol.
