Your PC GOTY nomination?

Because System Wars is totally a civilized place to discuss the Steam Awards, I am curious as to what game you'd nominate as Game of the Year in a world without Red Dead Redemption 2 and the PS4 Spiderman game. And quite frankly, i think that leaves for some rather sparse choices.

To start off the thread, I'd nominate SoulCalibur VI for the exact reason that there isn't much PC gaming contenders for a Game of the Year award and i don't remember fighting games creating a hullabaloo nearly as loud as SCVI.

Edit: To make things more interesting, how about we share our nominations for all the Steam Awards categories? They are as followed (and are literal copy-pastes of their descriptions excluding "Best developer" for reasons explained below:

Game of the Year (Self-explanatory)

VR Game of the Year
VR is the Wild West of game design. It's a lawless land of emerging standards where pretty much anything goes. The winner of this award is not only hugely fun, but helps chart a course for the future of the medium.

Labor of Love (old games still getting new content)
This game has been out for a while. The team is well past the first unveiling of their creative baby, but being the good parents they are, these devs continue to nurture and support their creation. This game, to this day, is still getting new content after all these years.

Best Developer
This category is a misnomer since you can only nominate publishers. I'd personally nominate Tripwire Interactive since they're one of the few publishers that are actual game developers.

Best Environment
All those chatty cutscenes, all those reminders that they need a health pack again. Let's face it, characters are overrated. As this winner illustrates, sometimes breathtaking scenery tells a better story than a thousand big-mouthed heroes.

Better with Friends
There are some games out there that just aren't the same when you play by yourself. Maybe you need to have a friend to watch your back. Maybe you need to have a friend that you can stab in their back. Either way, mirth is awaiting those who gather friends to play these games.

The Most Fun with a Machine
Whether it's a car, truck, robot, or other mechanized contraption, the winner of this award fired on all cylinders, engineering an unforgettable gameplay experience made possible by machines.

I think the only games I have fully played(as in finished) this year that were actually released this year are Into the Breach and Two Point Hospital. Into the Breach is probably the better game.

Subnautica and Pillars of Eternity II. they are on (or coming) to consoles but feel pc-centric.

Subnautica was basically developed alongside community feedback on PC for years. its easily the best survival game i've ever played and pretty terrifying at times to boot.

Warhammer Vermintide 2 is another good one. released first on PC and feels best with a keyboard and mouse IMO. probably my most played co-op game this year.

Freedom's PC

Yeah good mentions. I looooooved Subnautica. That may end up in my top 10.

Well subnautica already won the golden joystick award for pc category. And I think it will keep winning more pc GOTY awards in the future too.

Dragon quest 11 easily! Haven’t gotten around to pillars 2 yet but suspect that would also be up there.

Otherwise far cry 5 was also really great and another reminder of why pc are superior to consoles in most games!

For pc only games it would probably be slay the spire or kings haven both really great games!

For me it's probably Monster Hunter World. Way better on PC than consoles.

There's not many PC exclusives that I've enjoyed this year. Is Subnautica PC exclusive? Maybe that one then.

Genuinely dunno what to select for Alternate History, so i settled with nominating a piece of abandonware from 2011

My personal PC GOTY favorites for 2018 are Pillars of Eternity, Vermintide 2, Monster Hunter, and Dragon Quest. Happy? :)

A significant majority of video game releases are on PC as well, more so than consoles. So It's not hard to name PC games. In that one "Golden Joystick Award" thread a primarily PC played/designed game won "Ultimate GOTY" and it made the Cows go nuts.

But, you are entitled to your 2nd place opinion.

Beat Saber in terms of how much fun it is, though truthfully the modding is what really makes the game shine.

Freedom playing most games at 20-30 fps on low and trashy online with the same 2 annual shooters on fumblstickes.

Yikes.

I really don't care if a game is multi-platform, exclusive, how much was spent on the development or the score from some random game "journalist".

Exclusives are largely a thing of the past, and it's an issue across all platforms. The Xbox One has no exclusives worth mentioning. PS4 exclusives are lightly interactive movie games that you could just as easily watch on Youtube. And the Switch has Mario and Zelda. For the people who didn't get enough Mario and Zelda the first 11,000 times that Nintendo put out Mario and Zelda games.

Most games that are worth playing in recent years are multiplatform. And since PC has the best graphics, best controls, and the cheapest prices, it's the best platform to play them on.

Depends on the site/organization. Fortnite (primarily PC played/developed) won "Ultimate GOTY" at Golden Joystick lmao.

Other than that, PC doesn't really win these popularity contests. It notoriously gets few GOTYs, but almost always wins generation library lists at MC or GS.

AAA - 120

AA - 286

PS4:

AAA - 88

AA - 215

Your system is objectively much worse than PC. Worse gen8 library, far worse online, worse version of most video games, worse gfx, worse fps, worse e-sports. Cherry pick arbitrary restrictions and add in some popularity awards all you want - but PC is just better, by far.

On average, PC games have lower scores at MC than the same console counter-parts. Meaning PC has higher standards, by definition. Two GS chief-editors are on the record stating PC has higher standards.

Nearly all of PS4s library is better experienced on PC. By a large margin. PS4 is the place to play scraps of video games. It's for people that aren't really into gaming I suppose.

Odyssey is a contender for my GOTY this year, also. They've come such a long way from the awful Assassin Creed games of yesteryear; Origins was good, but wasn't near GOTY status for me.

Battlefield 5 is also on my list. Such an amazing game, although it has more bugs than it should thanks to EA being EA. Then again, I guess Odyssey is full of bugs, too. Lol

Kingdom Come was also awesome. Was that just this year? That's also a contender; such a great game.

I have to get into Subnautica still, but been overwhelmed with great games, as of late.

Monster Hunter World was also awesome.

Spiderman and GoW both have terrific gameplay mechanics. Yes, they also have top notch production values. But that shouldn't be a negative as long as the gameplay is this solid.
