MGS3. Had so many stealth element thrown in. The Handkerchief, interrogation, silenced guns/snipers, knife kills, costume changes, masks, , it was the perfect stealth game. Definetly still unsurpassed.

Assassin's Creed 2 as well played great dealwith stealth. Especially with the blending in, fast kills, knife-poisoning, hiding spots, and gave you so many options and toolsto make your kills.

MGS4 was an am azing experience. But it didn't deliver with the stealth mechanics as much as MGS3 did. MGS4 was struggling to be accessible and appealing to newer audience and potential buyers that it lacked the potent formula that has made the MGS series soa stonishing. MGS4 focused on incrementing its cinematic experience combined with jawdropping elements and unforgetable events. Although, I'd say it's vastly subjective to say which MGS is better than the other.

Have you perchance ever played a Thief game? They make MGS take the phrase "tactical espionage action" to heart. On Extreme MGS3 might be a good stealth game, but it still can't come close to Thief. Especially considering its a game from 2004 and absolutely in no way does lighting have any effect on visibility.

If you posted here but didn't type Thief into it somewhere, it's time to go educate yourselves. Sometimes, some opnions are just more equal than others. :P

Thief 2 - still the best. The original Thief is close, but gets some points taken off for the zombies (the only time in gaming history where zombies actually made a game worse).

Thief II: The Metal Age. As for recent games, Death to Spies was the best stealth experience I had. :D

tenchu was killer amounts of fun especially the 3rd one.A franchise acti should have never let the contract run out on :( i would love a good new tenchu game they seem to have declined a fair bit quality wise (well last one i played).

I also like how Alpha protocol has RPG elements added to its stealth ones if only the game wasnt as buggy and rough it would have clinched it for me.

Peace Walker and Crysis, though I haven't played much games in the genre (plan to fix that soon as it's now my favorite)

Conviction only because it nailed the stalking mechanics so well. On top of that, it's co-op campaign and deniable ops really stood out for me.

Chaos Theory is a close second only because of it's adversarial multiplayer.

Splinter cell chaos theory, best stealth game and one of the best game ever made. SC conviction is good but too fast paced and barely feels like splinter cell

sikanderahmed

^^ splinter cell chaos theory is about the best....unlike conviction.....it makes u have to think.....and it makes u actually be stealthy....

Either the first Splinter Cell or Pandora Tomorrow. Remember playing those heavily a while back. They were kinda hard, but it added to the fun.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.

Great Game.

siddhu33
Agreed. I still play that one once in a while on the Gamecube. I liked Pandora Tomorrow, but I thought SC Chaos Theory was one of the best Splinter Cells to date. I also liked Double Agent a lot, and thought it was a bit under rated.

In terms of pure stealth gameplay I'll have to go with MGS2,followed closely byChaos Theory. Those arent necessarily my favorite stealth games (I would put MGS3 miles above Chaos Theory as a whole), but IMO those are the best at playing to the genres strengths.

And yes, I have played all stealth games from the awful broken ones to the genre defining masterpieces. So please, none of that "lulz you must of never played thief lulz!" comments.

We all know Thief is the truest stealth game but that doesn't mean it should be favored by everyone.

Objectively, Thief.

Subjectively, Hitman.
