Xbox One Price Drops to £300 in UK

Man, pretty soon X1 will be cheaper than 360. :o

Now, that said, nobody in their right mind should complain about the consumer needing to pay less right? :P

Xbox One Price Drops to £300 in UK

Retail promotion begins across the country.

Microsoft has reduced the UK retail price of Xbox One to £299.99, the corporation has confirmed, as part of a new sales promotion.

The discount is the latest development in a long-running series of revisions to the Xbox One's retail price, as part of a wider bid to remain competitive with the industry's current best-selling home console, the PlayStation 4.

Though it launched in November 2013 at £429, the Xbox One's price was cut to £400 just four months later. Then in May 2014, Microsoft scrapped Kinect as a mandatory accessory and began listing the console for £350. By September, that solus version was cut to £330 as part of a price promotion--which Microsoft said was temporary at first, but became standard over time.

The latest revision pulls the Xbox One price below the £300 mark for the first time. Microsoft has told MCV that it was UK retailers that have spurred the changes, though the corporation is advertising the deal on TV.

It is not clear whether retailers will revert the Xbox One price back to £330.

A Microsoft spokesperson said: “This is a UK-only retail promotion and offers great value for fans looking to buy an Xbox One ahead of the launch of 2015’s highly-anticipated games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Batman: Arkham Knight, along with Xbox exclusives such as Rise of the Tomb Raider, Forza Motorsport 6 and Halo 5: Guardians.”

price drops are great, but game drops would be better

Price drops are good, but it needs some games to launch to make it look appealing. Last years launches attracted buyers last year, they shouldn't rely on last years launches to push the machine this year. Yes SO and FH2 are great, I personally don't see too many people jumping on for MCC even if it is mainly fixed, that damage is done imo. But they need stuff to come out now to make it look more appealing than the PS4 which just launched Bloodborne and the Order. I know the Order isn't a great game, but people like good graphics for the wow pretty factor. I love my X1, but it's lineup so far this year has been very weak.

Still trying to catch up to the #1 console in the world and current gen 8 console leader PS4.

Yeah but for me who's a big fan of a few of the Xbox IP's it's been great I mean, I bought X1 with MCC for a $100.00 less than what I paid for 360 alone plus 35-40 bucks a year for XBLG 1 year sub off ebay and getting tons of free games. The least expensive gen I can ever recall.. by far. :D

I don´t understand why you English have to pay pretty much 50% more for the same stuff, absolutely insane price, MSRP in Mexico is around $ 400 US and still you can find them for $320-350 ( wo Kinect ).

In all seriousness though it possibly didn't need it. I work in a fairly major game retailer in the UK as a side job, and gotta say, we normally sell around the same numbers for Xbox One and PS4 on a daily basis anyway. Only exception recently was Bloodborne's release, but it has dipped back since. This could be what results in the start of the Xbox retaking back the UK though.

Doesn't mean much really, both the XOne and PS4 sell for sub-£300 prices anyway.

You can even pick up bundles for less than £300. PS4 LBP3 bundle is £288 at Gamestop for example

I keep hearing dodgy horror stories about the online Gamestop UK, so have been avoiding them personally. But yeah, prices are usually far cheaper if you hunt around. I was pretty happy with my Black Friday Xbox One actually, White Xbox plus Sunset and an extra controller for £305.

Jeez, desperate times call for desperate measures.

Nothing against the MS platform, but clearly these are signs of desperation and catch up.

Further proof of how unhealthy and uncompetitive the XBox brand is for gaming. They have to raid the piggy bank constantly rather than actually be competitive.

Dude you know this place. This is seen as desperation even though every product in every industry goes on sale from time to time. Of course they want to get the console in more homes, that is kinda the purpose of business. They will be climbing out of the ditch they dug for themselves all gen long.

Lol it's not gone on sale, it's a price cut. It's been on sale for £250 at Asda all week according to Neogaf with the lowest it hit being £240 from Simply games during Easter. Every product does not get a price cut "from time to time", you cut the RRP when the number of units you're moving is dropping.

It's only been on the market here for 18 months, they've gone from selling it at £420 to £300 already officially and to around £250 in reality, looks pretty desperate to me especially when the PS4 is still sat at it's launch price of £350 and can be found at £320 and has shown no sign of budging.

To not do so would be to give up and die. There's a difference between being competitive and using infinite money Game Genie codes. One makes you a better player, homie. The other makes you XBox.

Ok whatever that is supposed to mean. I think its clear to anyone who doesn't have a hate hard on for either company that the PS4 being much easier to develop for and using known tech rather than some bullshit Cell magic sales PR shit was because of the competition Sony got from the 360 last gen. This is how we, the consumers benefit from competition in an industry. Now you can hate MS all you want but to say they haven't brought competition to Sony and forced better moves for the consumer and vice versa is putting a blind fold on and sticking your fingers in your ears.

The same one you're wearing by ignoring how easy to develop games was for the PS1. You're just towing the same tired party lines acting like gaming was nonexistant before the Xbox came out. It's just as easy to blame XBox for the fact that PSN is pay-walled, you know. At least there isn't historic precedence for that.

Well if you like giving people a pass for their own behavior go ahead. How am I ignoring how easy it was to develop games for the PS1? That gen wasn't in conversation or debate. I bet I have been gaming longer than you son, I know its been going on longer than xbox.

Well, fair enough then. People act like Playstation is synonymous with satanically hard to program for consoles. Admittedly, the PS2 and PS3 were silly but the PS1 was so simply to make games for that they made an SDK publicly available with the Net Yaroze. One could argue that XDK was just jocking Sony's old flavor in that regard.

As far as gaming longer, it's possible. I started gaming in 1985 with an Atari 2600.

Oh yeah, I am aware of the PS1 and its SDK. Even the PS2 I wouldn't say was all that hard to dev for was it? It really became in the notice with PS3 because they finally had competition in the 360 and lost the sales race to Wii.

It's all good. It's System Wars. We're supposed to be like eternal enemies and stuff here. The PS2 really was a super bitch to code for. Worse than the PS3 in a lot of ways, even. At least it had a better pixel fill-rate than the PS3 although that came from tweaking your code to run on the two vector units a lot.

Didn't know that. Man I still remember going to the games and hobby store in Cross County mall to buy my PS2 bundle. They wouldn't sell the console unless you bought 2 games and an extra controller with it when it was scarce at launch. Fuckin loved that console.
