Poll Xbox "Duke" controller making a comeback (57 votes)
Man, I remember the original. I would get this just for nostalgia purposes. It might be great to play with on my PC. What about you, SW? Are you interested in the "Duke"?

Well... If Nintendo is getting away with selling cardboard then why can't Microsoft get away with selling outdated joysticks?
They should working on making games. You know the thing that you use controllers for?
What are you talking about... you'll be able to play OG Xbox games on a OG game controller on yout Monster X1X.... All by the meager price of 500 for the console and 70 for the gamepad... I mean, what else can current gen consoles be used for?
The "Duke" reminds me of video game controllers of the pre-crash era that were invented by engineers who never played a video game but were designed because their company give incentives to be creative.
As a guy with big hands, I love the size of the Duke controller; it was so comfortable, but I don't like the slanted buttons.
I loved the Xbox controller S version more since it had the buttons better positioned and while I wish they kept the size of the Duke controller, it was still comfortable and still bigger than most other controllers. It's one of my favorite controllers of all time and I would definitely buy a new Xbox controller S if they released it.
Why would they release this instead of the S version? I loved the S version, the Duke, not so much.
Because the 360 and X1 controllers are the evolution of the S controller. The Duke was its own beast. I agree that the S version was much better and I bought the original Xbox right around the time the S controller came out.
I got the original Xbox later when it had the S controller so I missed the whole “Duke” thing. I am kind of curious to try one out and see how it feels although I’m not sure if I’m tempted enough to buy one though.
One question...
The console name is...Xbox 1
It's most highlighted feature is...playing original xbox games
Makes sense to play on the OG xbox controller for that authentic feel no?
Considering the Duke was a panned controller that was fixed with the S controller and onward... no! I've been playing XBOX Original games just fine with the XBONE controller.
Madcatz made better controllers. I remember seeing this at E3 2001. It had a piece of paper in the middle plastic bubble with the X logo on it. Me and my friend laughed and went back to the GameCube stand, which had an awesome controller for the time.
That controller was one of my least favorite ever. It's just gross, that's why M$ buried it themselves two gens ago. Now it's back from the dead why? I bet they sell less than one thousand worldwide. Gross. Look at that d-pad. The horror :(
I have the original OXB, and while I love it, I gotta say the OXB controllers are the worst joypads ever designed. They just feel bad in your hands. Even GC had better joypad...
You would have to be fool to buy this one. But then, if you bought Xbone in the first place...
I loved the Duke.... It was weird at first, no doubt, but after time it was comfortable for my massive man hands.
I also have very large hands and the actual fit of the controller was great compared to the ultra small PS2 controller, however the buttons were so hard it was uncomfortable to your fingers for extended play.
I was into a lot of racers and fighters on OG xbox so you can imagine the damage. My fingers went through hell playing Capcom Vs SNK 2
@vfighter: that may be true, but it was nothing like the DC controller in reality. The molding is so insanely different - and all in the DC controller's favor. If that thing (DC) had two good analogs and a less mushy d-pad it would be mindblowing
The Duke was modeled after the Dreamcast controller, only made bigger and more shitty.
Also, the Controller S (and its 360 successor) looks like it was modeled after the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis/Saturn controller, combined with features of the Dreamcast controller.
Originally, the Controller S (codenamed Akebono) was exclusive to Japan. But after the Duke wasn't so well-received in the West, the Controller S was introduced to Western markets.
I never owned the OG Xbox so I figured I would get one, it has not arrived yet, should be getting it soon.....I wanted just to collect it mostly and see how I feel about it, don't like the fact it is wired though. This random Tweet I saw shows the box, pretty cool
The Hyperkin Duke has arrived and I’m ready to tear up some OG back compat games! ?

Controller S was the better controller hands down. Duke will give ya a bad case of the crab claw. Who the hell is nostalgic for that thing?
Loved the big old Dukes back in the day but eh, I've got those big hands, feet, ears and well, you know. lol :P
