Um yes?
How do people expect inflation to not affect video games? It affects everything else, yet somehow people continue to think that consoles will cost less than they did the previous generation.
If they used the same technology as the previous gen, they could manufacture really cheap consoles, but if you want top of the line stuff, you need to pay for it. If we didn't want top of the line stuff, we would stick with the current gen.
$300 is nothing in the grand scheme of things. I paid $600 for my PS3 when it came out, and since then I have bought at least $3000 worth of games. I would say I got my money out of it when I spent more money on games than the system. If I hated my PS3, like some people claim, then I would feel ripped off, but I have sunk hundreds and hundreds of hours into it since I bought it.
People expect way too much for their money. In an age where a latte from Second Cup costs $5, why does anyone expect cheap products from an industry in which everything gets exponentially more expensive to make every couple of years?
To sum it up, I would say "stop whining!" in my best Arnold voice. :P
