Um yes?

How do people expect inflation to not affect video games? It affects everything else, yet somehow people continue to think that consoles will cost less than they did the previous generation.

If they used the same technology as the previous gen, they could manufacture really cheap consoles, but if you want top of the line stuff, you need to pay for it. If we didn't want top of the line stuff, we would stick with the current gen.

$300 is nothing in the grand scheme of things. I paid $600 for my PS3 when it came out, and since then I have bought at least $3000 worth of games. I would say I got my money out of it when I spent more money on games than the system. If I hated my PS3, like some people claim, then I would feel ripped off, but I have sunk hundreds and hundreds of hours into it since I bought it.

People expect way too much for their money. In an age where a latte from Second Cup costs $5, why does anyone expect cheap products from an industry in which everything gets exponentially more expensive to make every couple of years?

To sum it up, I would say "stop whining!" in my best Arnold voice. :P

I'd pay way more than that if I wanted to but not at launch. I've learnt the hard way that launch models are ALWAYS crap. So if I know it's going to work fine (unlike 360 & 60GB PS3) and has enough decent games I'd be fine paying more than $300. That's not even 200GBP in the UK.

What problem did you have with your 60 GB PS3?

Just wondering because from everything I have heard it was the most stable model. In my own experience, since I have the 60 GB, I found it to be the case as well. It will be 3 years this month and it has never even had the slightest problem. Everything still looks and runs the same as it did when I first got it.

It stopped reading discs, but the replacement's been running fine for a year. 60GB's are the most prone to DRE's and YLOD from what I've heard.

Oooh, that sucks. I have kind of been oblivious to the DRE and YLOD problems, I assumed they affected the newer models and since mine was running like a champ I never looked into it too deeply.

I never buy consoles when they're released. I usually won't enjoy enough games on them 'til 2-3 years in. So no :P.

300 max ,

400 was risky for ms and sony as a result , nintendo took off ,

while sony and ms are in debt ,lol ms especally they lost billions of dollars in repairs ,

! now

heres what i know the graphics wont go much further then they are now , only wiis successor will have a sustained boost whie ps4 and 720 are gonna be just a tad better on par with crysis or lil better then that

which nintendos console never costed 300-400 , ,so im willing to buy that one day one no matter what happens

thats always my first buy

[QUOTE="Microsoft1234"][QUOTE="wooooode"][QUOTE="Next-Gen-Tec"] Wasn't 360 $499? (IDK I don't live in America)

At launch the 360 was $399 (20 gig) and $299 (arcade) while the PS3 was $499 (20 gig) and $599 (60 gig).

what this guy said....

heres a more detailed pricing wii -249,99 w wii sports xbox 360 20 gig w bonus remotes etc or not (only a limited supply gave a media remote) 399.99 unless you bought online there was expensive bundles ranging from 450-550 whilst the hdless -also wired controller 360 -299 at store , online ranged from -400 -500 and ebay was a risk ps3 20 gig -bc no wifi-499,99 before price drop for discontinuation just 5 months in 60 gig-599,99 online ps3s were fetching 600-900 even 1000 for bundles etc so online would be a no go not to mention all the shortages of 360s and wiis and ps3s , you had to preorder or prepare to look long time

If the next Xbox was $300 I'd be overjoyed but it will likely cost between $399 and $449. $500 would be very shocking but I'd still buy it at launch. I wouldn't be able to help myself. However the casual would stay away from a $500 price tag and everyone knows that's where the money is made.

I don't think I'd ever pay over $400 for a console at launch. If it gets that high, I think I'll just get a PC.

I have not paid over $300 for a console yet, and I'm not about to. I'll get a PS3 soon since it's 299.99, and I got an Xbox for 299.99. No way do I need to be shelling out more than that, especially with the number of games I have yet to finish from this gen and previous. It would just be a waste of cash.

Mines stopped playing PS2 games( they freeze at the title screen) and it's not the disc drive cause it still plays my PS1/3 games and it reads dvds well. Then again my PS3 has always been an odd one since it doesn't turn on with the controller like everyone else's PS3s.Oh well my friend sold me his broken 60gb model for $50 so I can always use that one for PS2 games when I fix it.

I wonder how they will handle DLC next gen. That will determine when and what I will purchase.

As far as the price, if I feel it's a good value, I'll buy it, regardless of the price.

Sony had 2 gens of shoddy hardware and finally nailed it this time around. MS had solid hardware last gen and this gen it's junk. By your logic you should go be going with MS as they have a better track record percentage-wise. Actually, forget that, by your logic you should pick up a Wii2 as Nintendo seems to be the only dev able to put out quality hardware with any consistancy.

On topic, I wouldn't pay more then $300 for a console. Maybe less considering that with the way the market seems to be going multiplat for most titles there's not as much of a reason not to simply wait for the titles to be inevitably released for PC.

My life was really crappy for a while and I have no gaming consoles (among with many other things). In a year or two I will be in university in my own house, I can't wait to buy the next generation of consoles and play on my tv, I will pay up to $500 depending on if I like the games.

Whenever they come out, I'll most likely get them at least a year after that, so I'll know if there's any outrageous hardware issues and also the lineup for either system. If both aspects are fine, I wouldn't mind paying $400 for one of them.

well...i bought my 360 premium slightly after launch when they were more easily available (with the network adaptor  ) so that already cost more than $300 and I bought my PS3 after the first price drop so that was more than $300 too.

would i spend that much on a next gen console? yes

I think my max for a console is 500$. Thats what I payed for my 360 and ps3. I cant see a console being worth more than that. And PS3 is probably the most like price worthy console. So much included for a great price.

I doubt the next xbox will have the same problems, M$ won't make the same mistake and released a bunch of defected systems to get a head start on the competition.

And to answer the original question, yes I'd be more than happy to spend $300 dollars on the PS4, but its gonna cost at least $400 at launch.

No, but I would take one if they gave me $300.

I'm not bothering with consoles anymore. As a multiplayer gamer, consoles just aren't for me. The communities are absolutely atrocious, the only good one left for shooters is SOCOM, and Confrontation is trash. Not to mention the aim assists, it's gotten worse and worse in shooters, me playing SOCOM, I miss the days where you actually had to aim your enemy.

I can't imagine how bad it's going to be next gen. You'll probably just have to press one button from spawn and you're bullet will fly around the map until it can kill someone.

I would probably pay up to something around £300. I hope neither company try to push their product for the ridiculous £425 that Sony tried with the Ps3. Massive turn off. I wouldn't have picked one up if i hadn't seen a weekend deal for a 60gb PS3 for £350. Still very expensive though.

the price I pay is totally dependent on 2 factors

Ability and Power. Huge increase in AI development.. as so far AI development has not gone up much. Physics, and some better graphics. Motion tracking, 3D, with head-tracking.

Games- If it has great games that bring someting new new game-mechinchs.
